How legit is this? After doing some research it looks like two 2013 first round draft picks, including #1 Andrew Farrell, played for them in 2012.
So this isn't half bad is it? I always knew this guy was good, but our team was loaded, so I think I took a lot of them for granted.

I think college players are slotted completely based on college or high school location, fwiw. Does he play college soccer at Louisville or Kentucky?

Yes. He plays in the state of Kentucky.

That's true, my buddy played at VCU and played for Richmond Kickers each year, lots of UVA and W&M kids on the team too.

I've got a solid guess, but I'll refrain in order to protect your identity.

Yeah tons of college and high school players local to the area are on these types of USL, PDL, NPSL teams. It literally means nothing IMO except that he is doing well enough to play. I've known plenty of these guys that amount to nothing and just 1 that is now a starter in the MLS.

It's a good sign. The team in Cary has the benefit of getting all the Duke, Wake Forest, and UNC players in the area, and I can think of at least 8 guys from Duke who played some form of pro soccer after playing on the Railhawks, but other than Darrius Barnes and maybe Mike Videira, I don't think any of them are still playing in their late 20s.
Lots ended up playing bit parts in the Championship, Scandinavia, Scandinavian second division, Scotland, Portugal, etc though, so it's probably a sign the OP's friend can receive money from someone to play soccer somewhere.
