Transfer fees are only part of the story.
Manchester United bought Di Maria for £60m. Add in his £200k/week salary (conservative figure), and his real cost balloons to well over £100m. All this in a year where Manchester United had no European football bonuses.
That is spending power.
Liverpool is not a small club. Liverpool is not a poor club. Yes Liverpool has money. No Liverpool does not have that kind of money.

How about you save some of those transfer funds and allocate them to wages. Have 4-5 high wage players who are champions league quality instead of 9 players who are rubbish making 80k a week

I don't understand why this has to be a perpetual argument. Why do United fans have to try and rationalize their spending compared to Liverpool, and why do Liverpool fans have to make it seem like we are a victim because we don't have cash reserves like a couple other clubs?
Seriously. I wish we could throw £500k/week wages to two world class players without even being in a European competition. I wish we could go through our worst season in decades and turn around and hire a manager who has won the Dutch league, Spanish league, German league, Champions League and finished third in a World Cup.
But we can't. And that is the reality. And it's not because we are poor or a small club or have no history. It's because we haven't been competitive in a decade really, and our owners/board won't take risks on high-wage players.

I don't feel the need to justify our spending b/c we're Man United. We do what we want!!!!

The day we hired LvG and you sold Suarez with out a doubt I did. Esp when we saw BR pissing money away in the transfer market.

I was one of the only ones that was leading the charge against Lallana and Lovren. Lallana has since proven me wrong (somewhat) and Lovren was par for the course. The Lallana thing is frustrating i been a fan of his for a while. Lovern even though they said they wouldnt sell him can see now why they did. He looks much better with Wanyama and Schneiderlinn infront of him.
