Eventually, some keeper is going to wise up, and a normally confident shooter is going to look ridiculous when a weak shot hits the keeper in the chest.

I don't think we'll be seeing another Panenka for quite a while.

A guy as anti-Spain as I am must respect that PK.
Soooooooooooooo clutch.
EDIT: Next guy who tries that is going to look like me in a FIFA shootout. "Here, let me just hand you a win."

This happens quite often. I think it's very ballsy and give the shooters credit, but it's going to bite someone in the arse eventually.

It has. Look up Pirlo's history.

Good call.
It's going to happen on a bigger stage sometime, though.
I understand why a goalie may hesitate to stand there, but it really may be worth it to throw in there every now and then. It's not just the Panenka's. Watch shootouts and you'll see a lot of penalties that aren't well placed. You could save a few by either standing still or moving a little in either direction. Obviously, it's risky, but it's not like keepers have great odds, anyways.

Now that I think about it, even his penalty in the World Cup Final went straight up the middle, even though he didn't lob it.

yeah it's like Lampard, seems to me like he almost always hits it really hard straight down the middle yet the GKs always dive one way.

I could be wrong, but I feel like you'll almost always get away with it if you're shooting for the win. I can't imagine many goalies want to stand there as the winner goes by.

I would imagine going down the middle has roughly the same success rate as going left or right.

I've seen em half dive and get back up and save a chip shot. Bigger goalie would probably have emote trouble with this.

Pirlo's was better by a mile.

Absolutely no way Ramos was MOTM. Thought he was poor. Alba easily MOTM.

UEFA disagrees. Ramos was named MOTM.

He could have easily been sent off...he was their 3rd best defender tonight. Making too much of that PK. Alba had the best match of anyone on the pitch by a country mile.

Agreed. Him going to Barca is a scary thought.
