This. I dont understand why we didn't have someone in front of beasley to prevent this 1v1 or yedlin man marking ronaldo at that point. You cant let the best player (or 2nd) in the world the slip out on the wing in free space.
to OP, No i dont think so. I didnt even really think about this prior. The ball was dipping away and he had defenders. You rarely see keeps come off their line on plays like these

perhaps playing keeper, or hell even soccer, at a level higher than middle school.

its just that what you are proposing is a lot harder to do in real life than it looks.
I can't think of what to compare it to in another sport but it is a difficult thing as a ball is flying across tailing away from you.
plus smart money says A) a defender will get there B) if not he will hit it at me or wide. C) open net is alot easier to score on if you dont have to worry about placing it

This is from page 1 of this thread. Watching Howard, the ball, and the shooter. At the time of the cross it appears that Howard is already 2-3 yards off of his line, but is backing up. The header ends up being taken no more than a yard outside the 6. VERY fine line, indeed, but I don't think the question was without merit.
