So a dumb mascot name is the secret to branding? It sure worked well for the NY/NJ MetroStars, Tampa Bay Mutiny, Dallas Burn, Kansas City Wiz, and San Jose Clash.
I feel like people are conflicted on wanting unique names, a unique American soccer culture, etc

Apparently the firm who did the design also did Costa Rica’s new design. However soccer is not something they do a lot of work in.

I like the FC and SC names. Keep it about the football and the city. Dumb nicknames and mascots are childish.
The Euro ripoffs like ‘Real’ or ‘Inter’ are complete cringe.

San Diego Whales would have been funny and still PG.

I'm 100% for cool team names with fun mascots, like other US sports leagues. Part of my reasoning, its not like naming more teams Real and FC is going to cause soccer fans worldwide to say, "Oh, MLS is a legit top 10 league now!".
Cool names also help to engage the community, especially if the name has history, like Birminghan Legion. Not MLS I know but still.

The MLS really does seem torn on wanting to make itself in Europe's image or promote Americaness. Now it seems caught in between the two and doesn't do either particularly well.

Cool name with good branding is great. Seattle Sounders, Portland Timbers, etc.
Fans (including some posting here) simultaneously say they want a unique American soccer culture and that we should stop doing the euro name/FC thing and then shite on the team names like rapids, Galaxy, crew, fire, etc
