I thought for sure B-Easy's international career was done after his limited use in the 2010 WC and then not getting called up at all for 2011 GC. Now, he's is captaining our B-squad and may very well be our starting LB in Brazil next year. This has been quite a bounce back for him.

Good for him. His comeback was more than welcomed. He is playing decently at LB for the team. He deserves credit for his preservation.

All of this. But I have a feeling he will be a liability against good wingers on some of the better teams we will be playing in Brazil. I hope I'm wrong because I like him going forward and I just like him in general. He seems like a good dude.

I still would like to see what he can do on the wing.

Agreed all the way.

He would be a nightmare to keep up with as a 2nd half sub.

It's becoming obvious. I'm hoping Jurgen will chill out with all these little "statement" moves he's been making directed at LD throughout this qualifying cycle, it's getting old. He's proved his point. Landon is the obvious choice to captain the Gold Cup squad. We're inside a year to the World Cup, it's time to start being nice to him

why is it odd for DMB to captain the gold cup squad. dude has played nearly every qualifier and performed well while LD was dicking around in cambodia. give DMB his due.

I didn't mean it as a diss at DMB. I just said earlier in the thread that I'm pulling for the guy. It's a cool thing for him I'm sure. But he doesn't quite have the resume that Landon has, plus he has captained the team many times in the past.

Landon had a self imposed soccer sabbatical while DMB played for the team. I don't see why y'all think Donovan should step in and be captain.

Like I said, IMO it would help if Klinnsman, and the entire country, would stop punishing LD. At what point does it end? The Cambodia thing is old news, time to let it go. We need him to be good next summer.

When I first started watching and rooting for American soccer LD and DB were the up and comers for us. I'm starting to realize how important these two were/are to my interest in the sport now that I'm full blown weird about the amount of both club and international I watch.
I watched a replay of the US-Portugal WC match from 02 and got completely overwhelmed with how much I loved watching them when they were younger. This team is shaping up to be one of my favorites; and the fact that my two original favorite players are back in the fold is faptastic! If stu and these two connect on some nifty passes I might possibly squirt nostalgia juice all over AO bandana!

It's DaMarcus Beasley, though. It's not like Klinnsman named Kyle Beckerman captain.
If anything, Beasley should probably feel pretty aggrieved towards Klinnsman if he wasn't named captain. Outside of Donovan and Bocanegra, he's the most experienced player in the US's player pool.

You're right, but it's not like Beasley has been a no doubt fixture in the team the last few years. He's gone long stretches internationally without getting on the field, or even being named to the squad, in some cases. Either way, it doesn't really matter. It's the Gold Cup.
Hopefully it will help Landon on the field to play a lesser role in the locker room. He doesn't really seem to be the captain type anyway. He was chosen to captain the team, in the past, because of his accomplishments, not leadership skills IMO.

Biggest problem I have is that DMB is not a vocal leader. Never has been and never will be. Of course this team is really lacking any experienced guys other than LD and I never liked him as the captain either. Hell, there really isn't a good candidate on the roster.

He's been much more of a fixture than Landon in the past year though. And that's not a knock on Cakes at all, just presenting the situation at hand.

I don't think that much matters since he has been featured in all the Hex matches so far.
Also to note, keep in mind that even when Landon was at his peak under Bradley, he was still the third or fourth choice captain behind Bocanegra, Dolo, and sometimes Howard.
I think the last match Landon captained was the confed cup game against Italy because Boca and Dolo were both out. Before that, I don't think he captained a game since the 07 Gold Cup.

I think this is being over analyzed a little too much. In my opinion, DMB has been playing well and has experience so he gets the armband. Landon has been away from the team for a while now so he's not gonna come back right in and be captain. It's not a personal thing. DMB is being rewarded for good play.
