This is debateable, and anyone who disputes this is incredibly ignorant. The leagues are pretty much equal, based on UEFA rankings.

At best it's a lateral move. At worst it's a negative move because the average level of the teams is probably slightly lower than that of Norway.
UEFA coefficients are based on how teams in a country's domestic league perform in UEFA club competitions. I think this skews things slightly in the favor of the SPL because Celtic is stronger than any one Norwegian team that would play in the CL.

Also, if you read the SI article about Bayern, their desire to connect to the American market was a big part of it.

Well yeah, no shite. But you make it seem like the only reason he was even at Bayern was for marketing. He was at Bayern when he was pretty much only considered a German youth product. He's at Hamburg on loan and he's been hurt for a good part of the year.
Bayern is trying to get into the American market, every big club is, but Green was there long before he could even be seen as a cash cow.

I disagree that this would purely be a marketing move for Celtic. I think Mix has shown he could do well for them on a regular basis. Sure, the potential of adding a new market or fan base would be added value for Celtic and is always a consideration. But if he were to go there, I would expect him to do well for them. I just don't want to see him make that move for other reasons.

They have just as big of a market share here as Man U or Barcelona or Real.
I bet a lot of these squads put a token Asian on their team because they can't find an equally talented Hungarian or Cypriot, right?

Nobody is saying marketing doesn't exist. Of course, teams market their players and, at times, only buy certain players to sell jerseys and add a base. All I was saying is that Celtic wouldn't be adding Mix as the "token Asian", as you described. It would be a "football move" for Celtic as well, not just purely marketing as you suggested earlier by comparing it to Gooch at Milan. I think Mix could contribute substantially for them on the field.

Gooch was playing at an extremely high level before his injury and move to Milan. Not 100% certain that one was about marketing either.

Agreed - it was about 95% marketing. Maybe they had plans for him.
He signed in the summer (right before a US tour), got hurt in October. As far as I can recall the only appearances he ever made in a Milan jersey were in the World Football Challenge.
Sidenote: if you'd like to see something sad - look at Gooch's appearances since 2007.

I thought they signed him because of his stellar play in the confederations cup and for consistently being one of the best defenders in the Belgian league

Maybe top 15 CB. Maybe. It's not that far fetched. He was playing so well right when he was entering what would have been his prime years as a CB. Sucks what happened to the guy.
