How is the USMNT supposed to develop player when they only see them for 8 days every other month (and 2 of those days are game days)? They only have time to put a game plan in place.

At the youth level USSF plays a huge role in developing players

what are you on about last i check the USMNT and the age groups below it are part of the USSF system.

I know you're not that ignorant, but you thinking that the only involvement that the USMNT has with these players is when they are called up for camp has me wondering.

They get the credit when they actually produce on the USMNT level.

This isn't the first time we were relying on a super class of young talent coming up.

Please read the post again. You're essentially agreeing with what I said.

Considering the players are with their club almost every day, how is the vast majority of their development not on the club or the individual player. What do you think they are supposed to do to help with the player's development when they are apart?

So our lost generation is blamed on the clubs, not USMNT/USSF?

Then you're looking at our core of Pulisic, McKennie, Adams, and Steffen.

Not the USMNT. I don't see how it's the USMNT's fault that guys like Brek Shea and Juan Agudelo stopped progressing.

You're moving the goal posts, the crux of this argument is about Berhalter's coaching and the USSF setup as currently constructed.

This current regime had nothing to do with those guys.

But fine, I'll grant you that, we had three of those four playing in every single game of the Gold Cup. That core, you can argue, was more talented from a club perspective than what we had in the 2010 World Cup/2009 Confederations Cup.

Yet, comparatively they underachieved. That's falls on coaching, no?

So what should the USMNT get blamed for?

Results?

Ok, we're back to the Gold Cup.

bc their ceiling was never that high

which was the effects of poor development at younger levels

some of that falls on the USMNT/USSF set up at younger levels

I never argued that the current USMNT coaching staff did, but several people still with USSF did.

What do you mean by "more talented from a club perspective"?

I don't even know how I could explain that any simpler.

I can't tell if you're talking about the player's individual talent, or the status of their club.

yes its why he couldn't play in England

that was probably based off him not having enough youth team call ups

work permits for non EU players is based off the potential of player they see you as. They want to keep shite players out the league.

Maybe not, but certainly people thought they would be in USMNT consideration at 26 (Agudelo) and 29 (Shea).

You just love to shite on every potential American star. You’re max kellerman of the soccer board.

nah man. I love dest, and have gone so far as to say he’d be the second best attacking player now, behind pulisic, if they played him as a winger. He’s that talented pushing forward. He does have defensive weaknesses though, and that’s all I was pointing out. Though I think he’s improved. He even improved throughout the World Cup this summer as it went along.

He’s primarily played in sides so far that usually control possession at the club and youth levels, and that’s why I said it will be interesting to see how he plays against a senior side that will likely control the majority of the possession.

If he chooses to plays for the US I think he’ll be a generational player for the next decade plus, and we can finally retire Some frick.

re: Projected Starting XI for USMNT tonight?
If you're talking about the players, I think I'd take:

2010 Tim Howard (31) over 2019 Zach Steffen
2010 Michael Bradley (22) over 2019 Weston McKennie
2010 Landon Donovan (28) over 2019 Christian Pulisic

I would take 2019 Pulisic over 2010 Holden and Feilhaber and Edu. Would also take 2019 McKennie over 2010 Edu.

But I do think each of those players have the potential to be better than their 2010 counterparts.

but how is it a failure by the USMNT? They can only use what's available. It's not their job to develop players.

For someone who is such a massive proponent of having talent developed at the grassroots level I find it odd that you would mock this statement.
