As a former tester I can say that they told us to look for crash bugs and crash bugs only. They did not give a frick about the rest of the game. As long as it turns on it would be shipped out.

I was told the same, but this is usually at the end when they are rushing to ship. Not with Fifa, mind you, but with another game.

Then why didn't either of you tell me that, instead of making me look like an idiot this whole time?

I noticed the odd graphics too, but thought shitty gif graphics were shitty... So I didn't worry about pointing it out

It is, but that doesn't make it any less wrong.

I've tested FIFA, NCAA, Madden and NBA Elite/Live and they have been the same way on each game. They know their product is buggy, but they will never spend the additional dollars fixing it because they have no competition. The year I tested NBA Elite on overtime they ended up canceling it because it was just so shitty. They haven't released one since. Why is that? Because 2k was kicking their arse in the NBA department. They lost hold of the market and their product collapsed because of how shitty it was.

The employees and devs of EA. Of course the CEO isn't going to come out and tell the public their game sucks. But we have called their headquarters personally asking for answers and have had workers tell us that it doesn't matter and that EA has no intention of issuing patches for anything other than crashes. As a former tester I can say that they told us to look for crash bugs and crash bugs only. They did not give a frick about the rest of the game. As long as it turns on it would be shipped out.

As a Software Engineer, I can tell you that this is simply untrue. There isn't a single developer at that company who goes in saying "No, frick what they have to say. We just want to ship it regardless and be done with it!" QA is told to look for crash bugs because that has to be fixed. Tuning can come later. Your opinion on 45th minute goals, player-controlled keepers, and whatever else are irrelevant to the developers because that's not what you're there for. You're there to make sure the game ships without crashing. The game is not "programmed bad", and any sentiment of that shows a lack of knowledge about the process. The game is programmed phenomenally, tuned awfully. Initial bad tuning is the fault of the guys at their main QA center. At this stage in development, going back to make changes to the core of the game would require a delay or even a cancellation of the title. Every change made has an equal chance to completely break the game. Not to mention, you can't "program out" people being bad mode at your game.

I get just as furious with FIFA as everyone else, but outside of Messi being fricking stupid unstoppable and referees being too annoying about what they choose to call as fouls, most of the issues come from me just sucking at that time.

TL;DR

As someone who was a QA tester, I can tell you that I heard that straight from the devs mouth. Like I said, and you reaffirmed it, all they care about is releasing the game without crashes. Why shouldn't they? They have no competition and will sell millions of units worldwide. It's pathetic. And those "tuning" (whatever you want to call them) errors do not come from me being bad, I can assure you that. The game is programmed well to a certain extent, but beyond that extent, the online game does not resemble actual soccer.

I understand that, but online sports games never resemble the actual sport. All quarterback scramble type games on NCAA, Madden games without a single rush, and NBA 2K's problem with teams of all 10 foot tall people all come to mind. QA is just quality assurance to make sure it works, and while you might not be bad at it, there are a ton of other people working on the title in places that probably are. I also understand and know quite well that they probably did tell you guys to work on crashes only, but that's because, if they outsourced a portion of the game to you guys, it means that they're both behind and rushing to ship the game. What I was trying to say is that that's exactly what you're there for.

As for no competition, PES was a major contender to FIFA for a long time. FIFA is just more accessible to the casual player. That leads to bullshite, but FIFA didn't force PES out with its EA power. It won its audience over fair and square.

We're making the same point except you don't see a problem with it and I do. As a customer and former employee, I've seen the attitude inside of NATC and I've seen the attitude outside of the facility (for EA games as a whole, not just FIFA). It's disappointing and I attribute it to the lack of competition. The 2 sports where they had major competition, they ended up dropping their titles and that's no coincidence.
