Platini wants sin-bin to replace yellow cards

One of the few times I've ever agreed with him
quote:
European football chief Michel Platini has called for yellow cards to be replaced by a sin-bin
"I would make it like rugby, punishing the offender with 10 or 15 minutes out of the game," he said in an interview with Spanish sports daily newspaper AS.
"It is an idea. Now it needs to mature and see if it really is good for the game. It is a proposal to be explored."
Uefa president Platini also backed the idea of allowing national cup champions to take part in the Champions League.
Under the existing in-game disciplinary system a player who is shown a straight red card or two yellow cards in the same game is immediately sent off and cannot be replaced.
...
He believes a sin-bin would be a fairer punishment because "that way, the benefit goes to the team he is playing against, in the same match, instead of a sanction by cards which is carried out against a third team, the next on the calendar".
The former France captain, who won 76 international caps between 1976-87 and has run Uefa since 2007, also believes goalkeepers who concede a penalty should not be sent off.
"It seems excessive," he said. "The penalty is itself already is punishment enough.

For someone who was such a great player Platini is a fricking idiot

And red cards don't present that opportunity already?
This would immediately cut down on the cynical fouling that goes on.

And to think this guy could be running FIFA in the near future.

A better idea would be to allow subs for players red carded but make a player miss 5 games for a red card.
No one wants to watch a 11 via 10 match, IT IS STUPID.
For 10-15 minutes that's different.
And quit passing out fricking yellows for dissent & time wasting, if they waste time add double. If they dissent fine them heavily.
I like the sin bin idea better than the current BS.

I like the idea of a 15-20 min sin-bin for red cards but not for yellows. The way some refs officiate you'd have 9 vs 7 games going on

The only problem with that is you would have some team willing to sacrifice 15 minutes to take out Messi, just suspend the players for red cards 5 games and allow a sub for a nasty fouler. You take away a refs abilty to control outcomes with one call, and you get the dirty player off the pitch without destroying the game.
