He gave an interview to BT yesterday basically begging for better support, first champions league match with no fan restrictions and they have under 40k fans
I guess every other club doesn’t have these problems

Should have stayed at Maine Road

Guardiola asked for more fans to attend this weekend's clash with Southampton after just over 38,000 watched Man City beat RB Leipzig 6-3 on Wednesday;
quote:
Guardiola said his team will "need" a bigger presence at the Etihad against Southampton this weekend after seeing just over 38,000 of their 55,000 available seats taken for the 6-3 Champions League win over RB Leipzig.
quote:
What he said] did surprise me," Parker said. "I'm not sure what that's got to do with him. He doesn't understand the difficulties that some people might have getting to a game at the Etihad on a Wednesday evening at 8pm. "They've got kids to think of, they might not be able to afford it, [and] there are still some Covid issues about. I don't see why he comments on it.
quote:
He's absolutely the best coach in the world but, in the nicest possible way, I think maybe he should stick to that.
I guess every other club doesn’t have these problems
quote:
It does also play into the hands of supporters from other teams who want to take every opportunity to have a go at City for what they think are the poor attendances. "People refer to the Etihad as the 'Emptyhad'. It's a little bit of fun by the opposition supporters but there's no justification for it. It's not factual. Our attendances are generally excellent."
quote:
His comments further confused Parker because their two home attendances against Norwich (51,437) and Arsenal (52,276) have been close to capacity.

I’ll never forget my 7 month old son waltzing up to me and saying, “Daddy, It’s good for the league that Penaldo went back to penchester united. He may never play for the biggest club in the world, Leeds, but he shouldn’t be at a small club like city.”

Biggest surprise here is that you waited more than 24 hours to start this thread.

Can someone explain what the hell happened to Man City and their fans? These folks filled Maine Road when they were in the 3rd tier of English football. They filled Wembley for the 2nd Division final against Gillingham in 1999. They took over Blackburn's stadium the next year when they got promoted to the Premier League. Have the old school fans become disillusioned with the club?

No their current stadium is to big for the fan base
And then their owners expanded it lol
Manchester is overwhelming red despite what some diluted city fans say
Stockport and Bolton fans were not enough to grow the base

Multiple reasons:
1. Disillusionment with European football. City fans always have more fans for EPL matches.
2. Midweek games.
3. City actually have more season ticket holders than United. United sell their tickets out through supporters clubs and on the market to attract tourists.
I personally don't care about "sellouts" and "numbers in the seats." Whatever City do, sell out or not, win matches or not, buy a player or miss out, the media and opposing fanbases will wallop the club. So who cares?

That’s not true at all
United season tickets are sold and everything else becomes a first come basis online or a ballot, which requires a membership.Only a small fraction are sold to domestic supporters club for each match, we are talking 3-5 tickets. The packages used to attract tourists( the only tickets you can get without being a ST holder or a member) are the club seats packages, just like you guessed it City use and everyone else in the premier league.
United tickets rarely go on general sale when you don’t need to be a member, it’s usually league cup games.
City tickets are almost always on general sale to the public on the open market
I went to United matches home and away for four seasons don’t make shite up you don’t know anything about..

In response, Guardiola said: "Did I say after the game that I was disappointed that the stadium was not full? An interpretation is an interpretation.
quote:
I am not going to apologise for what I said. What I said was we need the support. It doesn't matter how many people come but I invite them to come and enjoy the game because we need the support."
quote:
I like it. To misunderstand and put some words in my mouth I didn't say, I don't like it. I will never have a problem with my fans. If I have a problem I will step aside, I am one of them. Since day one I've tried to do my best.

These Man City fans were not amused by the interview.

You mean those £15 tickets are too much for the champions league

Like we talked about
The dude from the supporters club is an idiot
It just reinforces what everyone already thinks about City and it’s fans
It screams being insecure over some banter

I've said it before, I'm still baffled how a club in a city the size of Manchester... doesn't have a waiting list and people fighting to get into matches for the most expensive club in the world... Contenders on all fronts domestically and in Europe...
Thats not me being a dick, just truly baffled... there should not be an empty seat, ever, at this point...

The city is overwhelming red
Like 70-75%
Everyone understands why the left Main Road but the stadium they were given was always going to be to big.
The expansion only made sense for FFP purposes
City’s core support is fantastic, the problem there just isn’t enough of them and you are not going to change generations of United fans into blue.
You always hear our fans are working class, are the saying the local United fans are not in that same working class city. Locals still make up an overwhelming majority of United match day fans.

Totally ignorant on this subject and I get how the majority is red... but damn near every other club in England fills their stadium... I cant believe there isn't at least 100k fighting for those spots... that aint much to be fair...

I’ve lots of good mates who are City supporters and most of them work at the docks or one if the local smiths or tanneries. A yoeman’s work they do put in Monday - Friday and a fixture at 8PM midweek is not practicable for these sturdy lads who’ve families to care for as well.

Imagine how few will be there when they aren't buying the league.

Covid.
Fans from the US can’t fill the seats if there’s travel restrictions
