Copa is only important to some of the teams in the tournament, is what I was getting at.
Heck, Brazil sent a basically C squad with a few A and B team members thrown in. That shows you that they didn't care about the special 100 year anniversary edition of the tournament.
And I'd just have to disagree. Not only because most of them play in non (major) European teams but also because their aim is to win a WC. Chile had never won anything before, and it's their golden generation. Of course they'd want to win it.
But the Brazil's of the world didn't give a shite.
Same with the Bolivia's of the continent. Their aim isn't to win a World Cup, it is to qualify for a World Cup.
So I just don't think that, as great of a tournament the Copa is, it's really that "special" to a majority of the players. Maybe the ones that haven't won it in a while (or ever) like Ecuador or Paraguay it means something.
I'm convinced that Argentina no longer gives a shite about the Copa. Messi does. Argentina does not.

I bet Copa is a lot more important for most South American players than their paid gigs in Europe.

That was because the Olympics were going on at the same time in Brazil.

That was because the Olympics were going on at the same time in Brazil.
Neymar & Marquinhos are really the only ones that had been in the senior team for a while. And Marquinhos was 22 at the time.
So it's not like they didn't take the strongest team to the US in hopes of winning in Brazil. Neymar is the only one from the Olympics team that would've made it on that team anyways.
I know Brazil was wanting their first ever gold to come on home soil but that doesn't change the fact that they didn't care about CA16 lol

You do realize that the majority of South Americans looked at this past Copa as a bit inauthentic, to say the least, since it was "added" one year after the real Copa and out of the regular 4 year cycle (not to mention that it was not even played in South America.
That Brazil was also hosting the Olympics right after losing the World Cup on home soil and that certainly was the highest priority of fans and the federation than the "extra" Copa in the USA makes it about the worst possible example.
If you have an example of B teams being sent to the previous year's "real" Copa or the Euros that would be a solid point.

And how's it not a "real" copa?
They only just started playing them every four years. It's not like having a copa one year after another is such an extraordinary thing when they used to be every 2 years.

All the money CA16 made for both federations throws the whole "olympics was highest priority" theory out the window

It was a one-off tournament that wasn't even in South America and a confederations cup spot wasn't on the line.

Huh? If the Copa was the highest priority for Brazil, Neymar plays in it.

The other dude said the olympics were the highest priority for the federation
Not to mention the fact that Barça we're going to let Brazil have Neymar for only one tournament. They thought the olympics were more important than Copa.
Think about that. The biggest footballing country in the world thought the olympics were a higher priority than Copa.

well it also has something to do with the Olympics being in Rio. I think it was more of a National pride thing
