While these honeymoon periods exist, considering how hard Philly and Seattle lobbied for pro franchises, I expect they will lead the league in attendance for years to come.

Definitely possible. I, too, agree that promoting successful existing teams was a pretty smart move. And it could serve them well with any other expansions after this wave ends.

Seattle, one of the largest hubs of pasty arse white illegal immigrants.

Followed closely by other pasty immigrant hubs like Philly:

And of course, what city in America screams "illegal immigrant" more than Columbus, Ohio.

That's right, folks. In the 1800's, the underground railroad secretly transported slaves from the south to the north. Now, in the 21st century the "underground airliner" is secretly bringing in droves of illegal Scandinavians to cities across the US.

Live, yes. But does ESPN have any plans to replay some of the games in prime-time? If so, i would actually like that seeing how most of the games will take place when I can't watch them.

Probably very late at night on TV, but I'm betting all the games will be able to be viewed any time on ESPN3.com.

So, according to you...Hate Soccer = Redneck? You have absolutely no idea what things I'm interested in. If you guessed, you'd be wrong. But I can assure you my time does NOT pass on a fishin' boat, or listening to country music, or in a deer stand, or watching neckcar, or pickin a banjo, or for that matter watching soccer.

Now...back to your regularly scheduled programming: Arguing over television watching habits of the tamale vendor

Dude, no one cares. Go make some more "brilliant" and completely "original" observations.

So to you, all those things you listed = Redneck?

Is it really that hard for some of you to realize that a lot of Americans like this sport?

In 2006, the WC final got a 20 rating on Univision and a 7 rating on ESPN.

The notion of ESPN's ratings being positively skewed by hispanic immigrants is unlikely given that the vast majority of that audience watches on Spanish language stations.

well, hell. i guess i'm an illegal immigrant and never even knew it.
i seem to recall a thread about feeding trolls. no amount of arguing and fact posting and expressing opinions is going to change anybodies minds guys.
to the op, congrats on your letter. please by all means do your espn watching after 3:30pm june 11 - july 11. thanks. i think espn knows who their market is and it didn't include you.

Funny because any time I have tried to watch Sportscenter the last 3 weeks and get info on the PGA, NFL OTA's, college football, or any other sport of any significance to me, I have to endure a growing portion of the telecast devoted to trying to influence me to believe soccer matters. While I may not be the target demographic, they are pumping a lot of (wasted) dollars into converting me into one of them.

That's just my observation, though. I should probably pay more attention to you enlightened souls who have such a keen intellect and superior appreciation for the finer things in life. I think I will go re-watch Victory and then go out in the back yard and try to Bend it Like Beckham. That clearly will make me a better person. You guys have fun and enjoy your World Cup. It's going to be awesome!

i'm sorry, i don't think they were actually tageting you. they are targeting the on the fence people. or the people who only watch the world cup. i mean i sit through tons of commercials for, say, nascar, and i realize they aren't targeting me to watch b/c i never will. it's for people who maybe watch the 500 or are casually interested in it when a big race is coming. i can assure you that they are not wasting money promoting this. it's espn, they are all about money and if it was a waste, they wouldn't be doing it.
i also never questioned your intellect. i do think it's kind of dumb to write a letter such as the one you wrote. a little egocentric if you will. but i don't think it makes you a dumb person. i didn't attack you. i was a bit sarcastic about congratulate you on your letter, but even though you originally posted this on the OT, do you think there are no soccer fans there? and honestly, if you can't sit through a few commercials now and then and maybe a short segment on espn...well, that's kind of silly imho. but and

Look who learned to play the Sarcastic Victim role. In the paragraph above the one I quoted you essentially admitted, "soccer interest is not in my perspective, /relinquishes attempt at making a point"

Sorry for the guys who resorted to name-calling and ad hominem attacks on you, but it's also tiresome when you don't respond to valid points and just come back to flame-bait people.

You might want to try the Golf Channel, NFL Network, and ESPNU. They specialize in your areas of interest. The US Open isn't for a few more weeks. There will be plenty on SC soon. The NFL and CFB are in the offseason. What the hell do you expect SC to cover? More Big Ben and expansion talk. The the biggest soccer even in the world is coming in a week. It's going to be covered by an all sports show. Don't get your panties in a wad.
