In a strange way, I don't mind seeing it. It reminds me how close we came, and actually makes me more optimistic about the future.

Pains me to say it, but the no call was probably the right call. That's what I remember thinking at the time.

That picture looks pretty damning though.

He's been banished to Toronto, justice has been served IMO.

Top reasons why that loss is still painful:

5. Oliver Kahn had the best game of his Golden Ball winning tournament.
4. America dominated the game in terms of possession, shots, and shots on target.
3. We had so much energy that, instead of celebrating, the Germans pretty much collapsed at the sound of the final whistle.
2. Frings got away with a handball that denied what would have certainly been a goal.
1. If we had won that game, South Korea was the only thing standing between us and the World Cup Final.

In what way could that possibly have been the right call?

Ball plays the hand, blah blah OK fine. But it was on the line. Without the ball hitting the arm, it's IN THE GOAL. A lot of other handballs in the area (almost all of them) don't prevent a goal in such a direct manner.

frick I knew I shouldn't have looked at this thread. I'm pissed all over again.

I can understand not giving him a red card, but there's no way you can justify a player stopping the ball with his hands out wide like that.

See next post down. He didn't reach out for it. Ball struck his arm, which was in a natural position. If it happened anywhere else on the field, it would have been a no call and no one would have given a frick.

Same rules apply if it's on the goal line or the center circle.

This. WGAF if it was unintentional? That's why your hands should be behind your back when guarding the post like that.
