So what would you suggest? Trying to play the other teams strength until you are down 2 or 3 goals? You have to do whatever gives you the best chance to win. Chelsea parked the bus and beat Barcelona straight up over two legs.

The ability to defend and especially finish chances is just as important, if not more so, than passing.

I know why they do it, I don't have to like it though. I automatically start pulling against that team when I see that tactic employed.

Yeah it's pretty much bullshite. It's very similar to time wasting by the central americans if you ask me, they know they can't win in a normal way, so they find a loophole to get around it.

I automatically pull against any team that plays for a draw period.

YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME.

Playing defense is equal to time wasting?

WTF does a "normal" way mean? There is more to soccer than passing the ball. The way to win is to score the most goals.

Good defense = loophole, got it.

The loophole is knowing it's going to PK's after the time expires. I didn't think I had to explain every last detail out... my mistake.

Its kind of similar to the NBA in the late 90s. There were great teams playing such horrible defensive basketball that the fans stop watching. That is why all the rule changes promoting offense since then. You can be a great defensive team without parking the bus. Barca did/does it. The Man U teams usually have one of the best D's in the EPL and they don't do it. Its all about playing negative. It takes out the beauty in the "beautiful game". Those are tatics used by Stoke City or some championship team when playing an EPL team. When you have a billionaire Russian owner and you play like Stoke City it is a shame.

Oh, my bad I didn't realize that PKs were the only way you could win by packing the box. How did I miss the Chelsea Barcelona shootout? Who missed for Barca? Who scored the winner for Chelsea? That must have been some high drama.

So...if we don't like Chelsea's nine behind the ball mentality, we must be clueless youngsters who just want to see scoring? Is that what I should get out of this?

You claim to be a Chelsea fan and have already forgot the CL final against BM?

Another loophole is that with 1 lucky early goal on their home turf against Barca, they were able to park the bus for the next 150-200 minutes.

ETA: Granted, Chelsea are just taking advantage of a really poor rules set up in the away goal rule as well as PK shootouts deciding ties, and I have more of a problem with the rules being the way they are than Chelsea, but that doesn't mean they aren't taking advantage of them either.

You can be a great team without passing the ball around the midfield for 75% of the match as well.

I guess it depends who you ask. Yea parking the bus isn't pretty but there is nothing beautiful about square and back passes for the majority of the match either.

Chelsea wasn't a very technically skilled team last season and played to their strengths, what's wrong with that? Do you get mad at football teams who stack the line of scrimmage against a team with a strong running game?

A shame is claiming to be a top club and going on 8 years or so without a trophy.

What was lucky about Lampard bossing Messi off the ball and almost instantaneously playing a perfect 35 yard ball to Ramires who had two incredible touches before playing a perfect pass onto Drogba who was his usual clinical self?

They didn't even win on away goals dude, they won straight up despite being a man down for over a quarter of the two legs. I definitely agree with you that the away goals and PK rules are stupid but as I learned recently on here I am an idiot for thinking that so watch out or the soccer purists will not be happy with you.
