And he didn't look around at all either. One pass and Swag would have EASILY netted it.

ETA: I feel bad for Balo. 3 chances, unlucky on all of them. He has done well, had good shots, but nobody around him is doing anything worth a shite. No wonder he hasn't scored...

Of course, as I typed that edit, Markovic gives Balo a great pass. And as much as I hate to compkiment ANYTHING about Man U, their GK has been excellent today.

I hope we lose at Bournemouth. Just focus on Arsenal next week.

It's hard to take anything positive away when we lost 3-0 to those fricks... But, we created more chances today then in the last however many games combined...

Biggest difference is clinical finishing and a great GK... And I realize that's all part of it... Let's get those guys clicking some more and add Daniel to the mix and I think we can score some goals...

My prayer is that we draw with Arsenal next week, beat Burnley on Boxing Day, and then somehow close out the year with wins against Swansea and Leicester. Then go into 15 with some confidence.

Every single person on the transfer committee who was responsible for last summer needs to be sacked tomorrow morning.

Besides some clapping, awkward BR smiles, and "we are playing better", where do we actually go from here? Because BRs rhetoric is falling very flat, and I doubt it brings anything of worth to guys like Balo, Cou, Skyrtel, etc.

That defending was atrocious. There is no reason for the outside guy to move towards the ball on that third goal when there is someone outside of them. This is playground type "mark your man" BS that we can't even do.

Cou just lets Rooney - freaking Rooney - run free when they create a break. How is he not at least trying to keep pace with him?

I'm with you on the committee - its not and hasn't been working. If we keep buying guys off a club that finishes 6-10 in the league, we can't be mad that we finish in the same position.

I think they internally need to figure out who was responsible for what and take action... IMO, it's not so much who they signed (you'll always have some busts), but who they didnt... Ive seen all the talk on which players BR was responsible for and which players the committee was responsible for, but who knows how accurate it is and I'm sure it's not that simple...

JWH has been ruthless before and I think there will be changes, at the very least, this summer... I wouldnt think anyone's safe at this point..

I think you mean there is no reason NOT to move to the unmarked man, and I agree. How anyone leave RVP open alludes me.

I'm just gonna share some posts from reddit that pretty much sum up my feelings
quote:

I've never hated a player like I hate Lovren. When everybody was knocking Lucas and Henderson a few years back, I stood by them because you could see where they could improve and that they were trying. Nothing of the sort from Lovren. People want to sell Balotelli at Christmas? I would almost give Lovren away just to prevent him from ruining any more good passages of play from our team (e.g. the second half). If we can get 6 or 7 million for him next window, then good riddance to that useless count.
quote:

It's not even close. I've never hated a player of any team I support like I hate Lovren. He offers nothing, DEFENSIVELY or going forward, other than setting up assists for the opposition. I truly believe he's one of the 5 worst CBs in the league. Dejan Lovren- get the frick off my team

And that first goal seems like our season in a nutshell.

Moreno caught up field
Lallana coming to help, but Allen lets Valencia past him way too easy
Rooney runs right past Coutinuo to the spot
Gerrard just outside the 18 marking no one :banghead:
Jones dive the wrong way :banghead:

Well, he was already by him. And there were already two defenders closer to the ball and between the goal and ball. So why he (and I don't know who the he is right now) left him to come towards the ball is mindboggling. The lack of awareness and anticipation is startling.

I am not sure why Balotelli is getting all kinds of flak. Everypne is quick to rip into everyone on the defensive half, but when it comes to scoring goals, they blame only the striker.

Not sure why... People should be able to see what is clear... Nobody outside of Gerrard, Markovic, and Lallana creates any kind of scoring chance with their passes. The rest of them just stand around and watch, including Coutinho.

As for Sterling, he is just out of position. He has nobody to take the pressure off of him, and people are starting to turn it up. He may end up having a goal explosion once Studge comes back, and a Studge, Balotelli, Sterling front three would be intense trying to defend against.

Today was a lot better as far as creativity goes. Our finishing was just pitiful and De Gea's been playing out of this world lately.

As for our preferred XI, I'd probably go with a 4-2-3-1 right now. Kolo and Sakho at CB if they're both healthy. I assume Johnson will be out so it'll pretty much have to be Moreno and Manquillo. A double pivot of Lucas and Can, leaving Hendo out just to get a better fit of personnel. Lallana, Sterling, and Markovic as the 3 with Balo up top. I'm ok with giving Jones another shot, but he really didn't do much to warrant starting either so I'd let them have an actual go in practice and just pick one based on form.

It would be pretty lopsided though I think to try and push Sterling up top closer to Balotelli and so that Lallana could drift towards the sides which he kind of prefers. So it would look something like this

I could get down with that... call me crazy, but I still like Gerrard in an attacking mid role at the LEAST. That pass he hit Moreno on in the second have was boner-inducing.

I almost would want Balo, Lallana, and Sterling up top with Gerrard as attacking mid, and bring Markovic on later in the match, sliding over Gerrard so that both of them are playing a side. Have Can in the defensive mid role , and pressure the shite out of the sides to open Balotelli and company in the box.

Teams are filling the middle on us because they know we aren't creative and drive straight to the goal. If we can spread them out and get our most creative players to the front, our offense will look a million times better.

Unless we get a decent DM and a serviceable keeper, our only shot at success is winning a shootout. At least that is the way that I see it. You guys have more experience looking at these things than I, so feel free to correct any deficiencies!

I understand why he started in such a big game, but outside of that pass, he was pretty much invisible, apart from his mistakes. At this point, I just think we're better off having him come on as a sub.

Which is why I'd like to see us start Sterling and Markovic together now that he's gotten comfortable and shown us a lot more in the last week. Giving us two true wide players will help stretch the field and improve spacing which is something we've really struggled with for most of the year

I really think a solid DM buy would improve this team a lot. Help provide cover and stability for our back line and can help release some guys downfield to give more attacking options without being as worried of being caught out.

And I agree with a lot of people in that you really don't have to look farther than United and today's game to see what a world class keeper would do for a shitty defense like ours. I don't know a ton about keepers but if Perin is the real deal, then I say go for it. Another one that I would look at which may be impossible to get would be Cech, but at the very least we could offer a sure starting spot for at least a couple years while we pick up someone younger to learn from him.

I see what you are saying, and I definitely agree that Markovic needs to see the field a bunch more than he has to this point.

I am glad I am ok at seeing what is going on as far as tactics go after less than a year of soccer fanhood.

I just am anxious for Studge to get back. Him, Balo, and Lallana have the potential be an unstoppable group.

Best part of the game. You don't have have the stoppages in play like other sports so it makes it a lot more fluid and entertaining.

I've always been interested in the tactics side in every sport, but soccer can be a whole nother animal at times.
