Aaaand we're fricked by the AR that isn't paying attention.

Can we take a shot that's not right at the keeper?
Posted on 1/15/17 at 11:51 am to pvilleguru
Damn... I guess with us missing so many players a draw at Man U is good, but damn we should have had that...

Frustrating to not win, but it was a betterment performance overall than in recent weeks... Let's just keep it rolling

Wij had as good of an opportunity as you can ask for and just queefed it directly at De Gea. I fricking hate MU

At least Klopp had some fight in him
Posted on 1/15/17 at 12:32 pm to Col Reb is my mascot
No Mane, Matip, Clyne and 1/4 Cou. We still need another free flowinibg atracker and some help on the back four. Our side is a year or two away with some additions and growth to being a truly world class side. The thing is that Klopp understands the long game while being able to be a Top 4 side before we are there. And that big German always has fight in him.

We started an 18 year old at RB on Martial. Best midfielder was on the bench. Best attacker at AFCON. Best CB locked in a FIFA battle with Cameroon.
We should all be over the moon with this result. I know I am. Everyone else to play at Anfield where we haven't lost a game in over a year. Come on you smash and grab Reds!

i'm not exactly over the moon, but at least we got a point.... should have gotten 3, but we did manager to at least get a point...
however, Lovren had a rough game... and we HAVE to find someone that can get some better shots on goal... Wij straight up sucks with the ball at his feet in the box, Lallana just wants to frick around with the ball and try to find someone else to take the shot... Firminio needs better touch around goal, giving it away way too often...
i felt that we did well in the 2nd half, especially going forward and pressing, forcing the long ball... so many of our guys out (Mane, Matip, Clyne, Sturridge...), but still eeked out a point... it is what it is... but dropping those points vs. the lower tier clubs makes this one harder to really be elated with... that is the frustrating part about Liverpool.... toe to toe vs. good/great clubs, head in arse vs. bad ones...

This is where I disagree. We should've lost 3-1 (at least). We did absolutely nothing to deserve 3 points. It was smash and grab at its best. I'm very happy with it, considering how handicapped we were with Matip, Cou, Mane, and Clyne out.

agree to disagree...

using your hypothetical, then we should have tied 3-3... Wij fricked up on the header, and the clear shot at the end that he dribbled to De Gea...

sure we did... we scored a goal, then we protected it for 50+ minutes... we just need 10-12 and we get 3 points....

and that's cool... i'm not VERY happy, just happy... and sorta relieved... got out of Old Trafford with at least a point, but very much could/should have been 3...
either way, we are positioned to end up top 4, and depending on Diego and Chelsea's fallout, may be able to get some results here in the near future and push for a title.... either way, we need a top 4, to get back into European football and to help with key signings in the summer...

Fair enough. I get that. I just saw that lineup this morning and expected the worst. So many key players out. 18 year old debutants facing the likes of Martial. We performed far and above what I expected.

That's how I was I see it. Happy with the draw. We were a Simon Mignolet away from losing pretty bad. Lucky not have lost.

Both our keepers looked really good this week. We are a process boys and need to get our lineup back. Remember Mane, Cou and Firmino up top with Lallana lurking?!

Was traveling so I wasn't able to watch until last night.
If you had told me before the game that we got a point, I would have been happy with it. Without Clyne, without our best attacking talents and our best CB...I mean, that's a pretty good result.
Thoughts -
We kept 5 back a LOT, especially early on, but also for every long stretches throughout the game. Clearly we told TAA not to go forward until certain points.
Can had a jeckle and hyde game. Had some REALLY bad touches, passes, and dribbles (including a late dribble nearing midfield where an easy pass puts Liverpool in for a 4 on 3 break). But also did a great job pressing, harassing, and muscling Pogba and others off the ball. But his passing has been horrible for a few weeks now.
I don't know if I necessarily agree that we are lucky it wasn't 3-1 United. We had just as many good chances, I think the key is that some of their chances were earlier which would have changed the game (and likely means it never becomes so open ended that we get our chances). United are lucky that Wij basically couldn't put away two great chances, one of which was better than any chance they had all game.
Lovren and Klavan were so concerned about Zlatan that they were pulled into bad positions constantly and giving room for Myk and others to run. I was particularly displeased by their lack of tactical intellingence at times tracking things like that. We found ourselves outnumbered several times in the box due to this as well.
We just need to pull out the wins at Anfield from this point against the big goys (and not @#$ the bed against the lower table teams) and see where the chips fall. We can't control what Chelsea does and doesn't do (other than our match) so we'll just have to hope.
Speaking of the match with Chelsea - we had better hope Cou is able to start - we are desperately in need of creativity in attack.
Final thought - one of my problems with Firmino being the wide forward instead of up top - he's not very good shooting from wide. His shot when Cou sprung him was just bad. Easy save from DDG.

Also wanted to add -
TAA did pretty well. I would have been a nervous wreck. He never seemed too nervous. He was fairly calm most of the time in possession, though he did misplay a couple of passes.
Martial looked to have an advantage early, but he then seemed to be sniffed out. Lots of help from the midfield and Lovren at times though, which could have hurt us elsewhere.
Also, his run to catch up to Martial and make his whiff on the Myk cross much harder to connect with deserves mention. He worked hard to get goal side on that one after being behind him.

TAA definitely grew into the game. By 20 minutes he settled just fine, and in those last 10 minutes before the goal he was making some monster tackles.

Can someone explain to me what's going on between Matip and FIFA?
