Looks like somebody is reading this thread, this just hit their FB page a bit ago

quote:

The Gulf South Texans feel there is a need for additional clarification about the use of fields in the Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish area. This applies not only to soccer clubs, but all youth sports organizations.

Many, if not most, youth soccer organizations use private land for practices and games. Although it is not common in Louisiana, it is extremely common around the United States. When it is stated that new clubs do not have fields to use, that information is inaccurate. It is usually less expensive to use government-owned properties, but is not at all necessary for youth sports organizations to use public land.

The Gulf South Texans will use a combination of private and public grounds for soccer fields. These will be used for both practices and games. The more established we become, the more we will rely on private land to build a complex for our members.

BREC has stated that the Gulf South Texans can use BREC's public, taxpayer funded fields for practices. They have let the club know that we cannot use the public parks for games. Our club is officially looking into why we would not be allowed to use BREC parks for games.

Independence and Burbank are brec parks right?

Yes, but the fields are controlled exclusively by brsa pursuant to a cooperative endeavor agreement. Texans would have to use other brec parks for practice.

It would cost them an arm and a leg, but a partnership with Traction would go a long way for this start-up. It would give them immediate legitimacy from a PR perspective and that type of affiliation would, on its face, tell the public that they are legit and not some fly by night. That would be very expensive and probably not realistic, so if I were them I’d visit Rev Swaggart and see about using his fields for training and games. Hell, maybe even utilize that big gym (Exerfit?) for training purposes as well. It would cost them but not as much as Traction.

Don’t think they have money for Traction.

He also has started a Gulf South Futsal but not sure where it’s being played.

I believe the Futsal was supposed to be played on the basketball courts at the Perkins Sportsplex/Skate Park

As far as Traction goes, there is somewhat of a relationship with BRSC, although unofficially I guess. Couple of the owners daughters are on 07 Black team, and I know a few of the Black teams will practice there indoors when weather closes down Burbank.

Heard BRSC parents got email saying all kids wanting spots on same team don’t have to try out.

Is this for real?

Even bottom black players?

Our player placement will look somewhat different from the usual process. Instead we will maintain our summer training schedule and conduct our player placement evaluation/assessment during the week of June 22-26. Based on numbers in some cases, this will look similar to our spring supplement player placement, where we are only adding players based on available spots per team. Please keep in mind that current LSA guidelines will only allow us to have a group of 10 players (NO games, scrimmages, jamboree, etc.) during this period
quote:

Our objective in these times of uncertainty with work, school, sport, etc., is to maintain our current teams AS IS. To this end, we are asking players/families to consider utilizing the LSA approved “Club Early Registration” option (see details below). The early registration option will allow for a returning player/family to secure their spot on their current team/club any time from the present to June 15 if they so desire. A returning player who registers by June 15 will NOT have to register for player placement nor attend the player placement sessions during the evaluation week of June 22-26

I've spoken/texted with probably 20 parents of Red/Maroon level players on various age groups over the last week. There are a lot of disgruntled people at there at the perceived "protection" the Black teams are getting, especially this year. I think Orlando is going to have a lot of kids interested in his tryout/club this year, more so than any other

Parents of some kids on the black teams are equally frustrated.

Why would the Black parents be frustrated? I figure Orlando will get plenty of Red and Maroon kids. Anything that makes BRSC up their game is fine with me:

Everyone but bottom black players should be frustrated as the normal relegation and promotion of bottom black and top red isn’t happening.

You, actually, should be the one doing the research.

Your Louisiana United information is incorrect. Look into it before you post about it .

Considering I was there for every practice and game that my kids team has had, I’m pretty confident in my info. But thanks for joining just in time for Texans tryouts

I don't believe all of their age groups were able to complete 2nd round of tryouts with the weather starting Sunday, I believe they have some reschedules coming up. I heard they had decent turnout for the younger girls age groups, not sure about older or any boys

It will be interesting to see if they get any traction from the fact that LSA seems hell bent on doing every thing they can to keep clubs from getting back to normal, while non-LSA clubs are apparently free to operate as normal. Will some kids jump ship just because they think their LSA club might not have a normal season? Time will tell

Hearing BR Red and lower parents are being told that BR Black rosters are on hold so can’t move up during tryouts.

So expect some more to look at Orlando’s offerings.

I think there are likely very few kids actually improved enough to play up. The gaps just seem to always get wider...they should at least, playing better competition.

I feel you though. My son’s trying to earn a varsity spot and he knows he’s up against it. He’s going to have to be obviously better than every sophomore and junior to get a chance to play, even out of position. But hey, at least he’s being given the shot to try out.

BRSC should figure out a way to case by case handle this. I’m sure they already know who are the candidates.
