As it does every year, the Major League Soccer Players Union has released 2013 salary information for every single player, from the highest (Thierry Henry, making $4.35 million) to the lowest (a whole mess of guys making the league-minimum $35,125).

Making 35k a year and playing for a team like NY would probably suck.

I agree. I wonder how these salaries compare to some of the lower level teams in Europe?

Kei Kamara and Benny Feilhaber both have a base salary of $300,000, but DP Claudio Bieler has a base salary of $200,000. Aurelien Collin and Paulo Nagamura both make more than Bieler also.

Interesting.

ETA: Soony Saad looks to be in for a raise from his ~$45,000 salary.

One of my former neighbors has a cousin that pitches for the Phillies, Joe Savery. He spent part of this year in the minors and I checked online and it's showing him to make $500k this year.

That being said it's time for some Russian and Arab billionaires to buy some MLS teams.

A good friend of mine growing up is a third string keeper with first team time at another club. Looks like he is making $46,500. 27, college degree but lives at home. Not horrible given the market for recent college grads, plus the team shuttled him to Charleston, SC every week to get PT. Now he does it in Richmond with the Strikers.

I was really kind of shocked to see the minimum salary. That's not exactly the American dream for professional athletes. Makes me feel like dempsey and the other highly paid mls guys would be resented by a lot of guys in the league.

Minimum salary in MLB is $300K.

A-Rod makes $175K.

Per game.

Happens in all sports.

It kinda makes you wonder what most of the guys are making in the lower leagues here.

A lot of things suck for those guys. Shorter season means less money and probably no league minimum. If you get hurt do you still get paid? Also, can't really blame the teams. I figure most are barely getting by and these leagues have no tv deals to bring in more revenue.
