I really hope our colors are red and gold. I always envisioned red and gold. Red from UGA, gold from Tech...plus a red and gold scheme is not used much. Lots of red and blues, but not much red and gold (other than NY Red Bull and even they throw in blue).

AJC has a poll for the club name and nickname.
VOTE
The current results (as of this post):
Atlanta FC 37%
Atlanta 23%
FC Atlanta 20%
Atlanta United 15%
Real Atlanta 6%
The current nickname results:
Chiefs 30%
Phoenix 24%
Legion 24%
Generals 14%
Thrashers 9%
I voted for Atlanta FC. I think all the nickname choices suck arse. I would prefer just the Red & Gold (if those are indeed the colors).

Being Atlanta I would figure a bird.

I've heard it's supposed to be something like Firebirds FC or Atlanta Phoenix or something along those lines. Referencing to the city's seal with a phoenix. Red and gold certainly matches that.

Must be a reference to the car that Burt Reynolds drove in Smokey and the Bandit

Could be confusing if Phoenix ever got a team.

This will ultimately FAIL big time! Atlanta fans suck, hell they don't support their best sporting teams in the city. The Braves attendance sucks, Hawks sucks, Falcons(only when winning)sucks! Now SOCCER, really? The stadium is gorgeous but it won't last.
And I'm sure NOLA would be a perfect site for a team, right?

The ATL v NOLA dick measuring contest on this site is a bit silly. Isn't the Pelicans attendance not that great?

99% of the time its NOLA people talking about how much ATL sucks every time anything remotely connected to ATL is mentioned. It reeks of insecurity/jealousy.
Meanwhile people keep moving to ATL...

woe unto thee who has the gall to think anything in NOLA isn't the greatest ever.
say that NOLA food isn't any better than in other major cities? Man, get ready for the apocalypse.

Atlanta FC is fine by me. I'm not much into nicknames, though. Fulham has "Whites". I feel this would not go over well here.

Sometimes you see a NOLA v BR argument, which is even more silly.

NOLA isn't a major city. It's an important city, at least historically, but its size, and the uniqueness, of its food scene are what makes its food scene special. However, the people who act like every other place in the world is devoid of a good, in some isolated cases better, food scene and the nebulous "culture" are definitely ridiculous.

I can't find a good po-boy in ATL to save my life, I'll admit that. I have to make my own. I mentioned this to a co-worker recently and he seriously recommended the roast beef po-boy at McAlister's, that it was authentic. I wanted to punch him in the face so badly. Another one constantly mentions how much he loves "crayfish." Its annoying.

My wife gets, "have you gone to Pappadeaux?" virtually every time someone figures out where she's from
I haven't bothered looking. It's going to be different, and if I want a po-boy, I don't want different.
I've had a lot of really good food in Atlanta. I've had a lot of really shitty food, too, but that's because I'll try most conveniently located restaurants at least once.

Well I've never spent much time in Atlanta so I don't know much about their food scene. I think last time I went there I ate at a Steak and Shake outside of town.
With them getting an MLS team I'll have to take a couple trips a year to see some games so you ATL folks help me out with restaurants and hotels when the times comes.

Lots of outstanding restaurants, dives, diners in this city.

I know everytime I see a food show in Atlanta they always seem to go to this hot dog place that looks like an old school drive in. Also, wanted to go see World of Coke since I was little so another place I need to knock off the bucket list.

The Varsity. Love that place. In fact, I'm wearing a t-shirt from there right now.
