Sporting Intelligence noted that MLS scored well in competitiveness and other areas.
This is why it's ranked so high.

I don't know why people are fans of mid level teams like Stoke, Sunderland, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Fulham, etc etc etc (across all leagues too). They will never be anything but mediocre due to the massive money gap between the middle and the top.

Weren't Villa competing for champions league spots less than 5 years ago? Or was it longer than that?

Yeah, Villa were just outside the European spots a few years ago. Last season was a huge drop off for them.
And Newcastle had that one great season last year, remember.
But, yeah, I don't see how any non-English fan would hitch up with a team not one of the 10 or so biggest clubs in the Premier League (which, IMO, is Man U, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, Everton, and Villa...you could also throw in two recent successful clubs like Swansea and Newcastle).

It was the only thing that took the sting out of watching them hoist the trophy again. I died laughing.

MLS is not the 7th best league in the world. Pretty close though, and getting better.

Well that and the financial stability and average attendance.

I wonder if the MLS could ever change their season to lineup with the other top leagues. That would be a big step, but is that feasible to compete with the NFL?

7th best in the world number one in my heart.
Stupid idea. Too much snow in the north. No way MLS can compete with NFL right now.
The Bundesliga is thinking about switching to summer.

I watched Sporting KC and LA Galaxy the other night. It was a fun match to watch with plenty of high quality soccer. Zusi, Feilhaber, Sapong, Donovan, Keane, Gonzalez, et al.
