I say it, I know nothing, you read it from someone else, and it's gospel?

quote:

Look, Bradley wasn’t at his best during the group stage. More accurately, he did the most visible part of his job badly. In general, there was a sense that he lost the ball too often and was sloppy in possession. That is true.

I don't buy that someone else couldn't do his job. Putting Shaq at point guard, Ladanian Tomlinson at QB.....and I'm a know nothing jerk for saying they suck at the position?

What I wanted to see is someone with touch leading the attack.

What is the job of an attacking mid that say Yedlin can't do? He looked great attacking, I couldn't believe he was a Fullback.

quote:

He helped set up Sounders teammate Clint Dempsey's late goal which put the US up 2-1. He also came on late in the next game, a 1-0 loss v. Germany; his deep cross to Dempsey was headed off target.

quote:

Following an injury to teammate Fabian Johnson, Yedlin was subbed into the knockout round game vs Belgium as a side midfielder. Throughout the game, Yedlin did a superb job attacking, despite some defensive errors; he had multiple great crosses in the box, that unfortunately his team couldn't capitalize on. At the age of 20, he is part of the future of the USMNT.

it's like RBBC...and you stick with the hot hand...that's what I was bitching about...bradley looked lost and was fricking shite up....they needed to swap him back...and let a younger more aggressive minded player take mid.

This is this shite that lets people know you don't know your arse from your elbow. It's clear you have no idea how many mids the US was playing with, what their respective roles are, etc. You keep referring to "mid" like it's a singular position that was MB's alone.

Yet another example.

A fullback's primary job is to start the attack and make overlapping runs with the outside mid to put in crosses.

eta: Especially Yedlin who is really a wingback anyways, not a true fullback. But you didn't know that.

so that's why Johnson, Yedlin, Beasley are so much faster than anyone else on the team?(esp Bradley, Dempsey)

When I was watching other teams....their fastest guys seems to be the forwards or designated attack roles....the US had their fastest players back...and these slow lumbering players trotting MID!

so this is a designed game plan or something for the US alone?

Yea, you're an idiot and you don't know anything about soccer. Cameron and Jones are the other two "mids", playing a more defensive role. Wings are also sometimes considered mids (Zusi and Bedoya) depending on their tactical role.

You out your league boss. Simple as that. First to pen just MB on the time of possession is like blaming a OL struggles on a C. SEcond the Ghana vs MB comparision is retarded. You are saying that MB should be greater than opponent regardless of outside factors such as the 10 other players on the field.

quote:

momentum killing backwards passes

Have you not watched any of the best teams in the world in the past 7 years? Any of the ideas and principles of the Spanish and Barca Tiki Taka style? or any good team play in the past 15+ i have been watching. Even wide open South American teams make backwards passes. And he made just as many as this dude you are comparing him to. That is part of the goal is to retain possession so your opponents can't have chances.

quote:

he created NOTHING...for an Offensive Mid...he had THREE successful FORWARD passes in the offensive third...look at all the momentum killing backwards passes....because he has no real offensive touch on the ball.

you realize that light blue line is chances created right? he had as many as your comparison to the Frenchie. He had as many forward passes in the final third (whatever the hell that is supposed to imply)
quote:

more of the same- failed tackles in the middle of the field

2 failed tackles is killer?

quote:

his pass accuracy is high because the harder passes to create are offensive in the opponents territory....but his passes really had no shot as they were just wasted long balls

This is a contradictory statement. your statement is this: "His pass accuracy was high because offense in the third of the field are the harder passes, yet he failed on these passes." ?? So his passing accuracy was high becuase he failed on the passes he was supposed to? that makes no logical sense as to the point you were trying to make. Anways the other dude has similar stats.

quote:

they'd hold the ball for 5 mins, then as soon as we get possession, Bradley kicks it down field,

So you don't want him to kick it backwards or to the side and you don't want him to play the ball forward with much distance. So on the ground forward passes is his only option? Yet, you bitch about him not keeping possession even though the "offensive momentum killing passes" is what keeps possession. Go watch Holland. The put on a clinic of keeping possession in the final third for the entire Costa Rica 1st OT. It included TONS of back passes. They got all the chances; CR got none

You are soccer retarded or trolling.

quote:

I do post links and examples of my issues with MB...it's not just all talk.

Not really. You never once posted an article. Not even a shite article. Just some GIFS of players from random times. There is good soccer stuff out there. Zonal Marking should be a daily read for you even if they dont have new daily articles. Kicks and Giggs too (If that site existed anymore)

One last thing on the minute byt minute break down of the MB against Beligum or whoever. This does not take into account the importance of the small things he does for us like being the person who pressures the ball in the beginning of the build up for the other team. It negates the fact the he was asked and did run miles for our team. He was the start of the defense, and was expected to transition to the heart of the defense. Then he was a main focal point of the Offense making runs all directions and generally being involved in every build up. He had the toughest role out of any player on our squad. He was obviously (to me) a focal point of our team by coaches tactics and players on the field decisions. There is a reason why both the players and coach put a huge role on the back of MB

kind of mediocre against Belgium imo

Watch again. The number of long, diagonal balls he played perfectly into feet (like Yedlin, who do you think got him the ball in all those great positions) was astounding. He also covered 10 miles for the game and completed 90 passes, as many as Witsel and Fellaini combined.

He was really good vs. Belgium.

Johnson, Yedlin, and Beasley (to a lesser extent) ALL play attacking roles.

Central defenders are ALWAYS among the slowest players on the team.

So are most forwards, depending on the ROLE played (something a quick Google won't teach you). Not all attacking players rely on speed. Dempsey is a poacher. He doesn't need speed. Same with Wondo. Even Altidore relies on strength as a hold up man. He doesn't rely on or need speed to successfully play his role.

You basically have three types of forwards: Poachers, Hold up/target men, and pacey ones.

With wingers, again, not all of them need speed. Zusi relies on overlapping runs with a quicker FB/WB. Bedoya is a little faster and more attack minded but all wingers rely on their FB/WB to some extent.

Sorry man, you're clueless and you should just stop.

Bradley's shortcomings during this WC was his meh first touch and lack of final ball (until the Julian Green goal). Normally, a CDM is not called upon to provide an attacking first touch or an incisive final ball. He played more of a CM role with some attack mixed in, which isn't best-suited for his skills.

Bradley and Beckerman passed the ball well for the most part after the Ghana game and the stats don't lie. Bradley did yeoman's work for us, but had a letdown vs. Portugal at the end of the game, and was unable to connect the critical pass several times in the attacking third throughout the WC.

Good Bradley:

Work rate in all 4 games
First 94.5 minutes vs. Portugal
Distribution during Germany game
Pass to Julian Green

Poor Bradley:

Critical final ball around the 18
Total performance vs. Ghana, he was bad
Last 30 seconds vs. Portugal

Overall, 6 out 10 for the entire WC. Probably would be 6.5 if it weren't for the Portugal gaffe.

Really wish we could've seen Jozy, Cakes, and a healthy Fabs throughout the WC - it would've taken a lot of pressure off Bradley and Clint.

Solid post.

thanks.....we only had forward,half,full,sweeper....not quite sure the new names you people randomly place....."wing back"

The wing-back is a modern variation on the full-back with heavier emphasis on attack.

okay great, now I know the name....wtf does that have to do in why Yedlin couldn't play attacking-Center-Mid? It wasn't Bradley's normal position, and they let him try and fail at it.

Yeldin has touch, pace, and ball skills....the PRIMARY CORE NEEDS of anyone who is in an attack role. Bradley should have been stuck next to Gonzales.

You just keep diggin bud. So MB in a central attacking midfielders role is like shaq at PG but Yedlin, who does not play centrally nor does he really play much in the middle of the field, there is the answer?

Yes No Shaq's at PG but lets switch all the positions of our players to better fit your idea of a perfect soccer team. Plus the argument could be made that Spain the most dominate team in international soccer of the past 8 or so years played with slow mids and forwards and had most of their speed in the back.
But No its called playing your best players and tinkering with tactics to find whats best for your players and team strengths and weaknesses.

Well that's not true at all. I would steer clear of using absolutes. Although, if they have to go full speed, they (or someone ) has likely messed up.

Matt Besler is supposed to be among the fastest players on the squad.

Rio Ferdinand( in his prime ), Pepe, Komapany, etc...

The US doesn't use a sweeper. No one does anymore.

No he doesn't. Not to play in the center. Totally different environment. And you don't need speed to play in the middle.

If you have to ask this question, you have no clue, man. Just stop.

I'll answer anyway: an attacking center mid needs soft touch, ability to navigate spaces, vision to play through balls, superb close control, the ability to connect with a forward, etc. Pace isn't really necessary, because this player doesn't run in behind the defense or track back, although pace on the ball (a different skill entirely) is required.

Yedlin is really fast, and sends in good ball from outside. He's a wide player, who has had his struggles defending but did a really good job vs. Hazard/Belgium. He doesn't have the touch or vision to play in the center.

All that said, we didn't play with a true attacking CM, or what you often hear called a No. 10. Bradley was often the most advanced of our midfielders, but against Belgium, Jones pushed up higher, Bradley played box to box, and Cameron sat in front of the defense, for the most part.

This statement renders everything else you ever say about the sport invalid. Sorry.

And it's not that you're wrong -- although you are. It's that you have a shitty attitude and are stating these things like they're obvious truths, when in fact they're idiotic. That's not even subjective. Any person with an inkling of soccer knowledge would tell you that Bradley at RB and Yedlin at CM is a fricking horrible idea.

There were five midfielders. He circled one of them. In grade school, that's 20% -- an F, and a shitty F, at that.
