American born Efrain Alvarez scored a free kick in the 79th minute to tie the game.

It wasn't that long ago that we were laughing at Mexico's shitty youth system.
Now, they have an American helping run it and an American just scored a goal today to help them into the U-17 finals.
Great job, everyone.

If his parents are Mexican he has every right to play for Mexico

No one is complaining about that. But it also makes the decision easier when one program is top to bottom better than the other.

Yeah, because it hurts that he could've been playing for us.
ETA: And he can still play for us.

I mean he could play for you but he doesn’t consider himself American

Bro, you’ve been around long enough to know that these results don’t mean jack shite. That Mexican team in 2011 that won the U 17 World Cup has had zero players do anything worth a shite for the full national team. The golden ball winning player from that team is a journeyman in the Mexican second division.
The last U 17 group that didn’t make it out of the group was an age group that included Pulisic, McKinnie, and Adams.

Sure, I don’t care about the result in itself. I do however care that Hugo Perez is over there and not here anymore.

Yeah that bothers me a lot.
