He's scored some damn bangers for us too, people forget.

Feel like he scores 15-20 goals in all comps and 70% of them are big ones in regards to the result.

Pogba and Martial's goals today were nasty.

If they sign another midfielder or two and a decent defender, that team is frickin' scary.

Firmino was always a guy who was a hard worker and created a bunch of chances even when he played the "9"

That is about his norm, with lots of assists.

He got close to 30 last year, I think 28 but has come back down to earth a bit this year.

Still a great player, would like another traditional goal scorer in our lineup though. Sturridge legs are shot.

Am I misremembering, or was Firmino brought in to be a 9? He was a striker in Germany, right?
I thought he was more of a 10 at Hoffenheim but was versatile

When he first got here he played everywhere, but seemed like Klopp turned him more into a 9

Sancho wasted a chance. Pulisic would've scored

He was never really a traditional 10 in Germany.

The system ya’ll run makes this kind of hard, imo. You would need a forward who knows the attack won’t go through him unless I guess Shaq is on the wing and Salah sits which isn’t first choice.

Similar to Madrid when Ronaldo was there with Benz and Chelsea with Hazard. Need a forward willing to hold up play. Not a lot of high quality ones around that are willing to take a back seat in terms of a starting role, but also when they actually play.

To be fair I don’t think he’s ever really been a traditional anything

Obviously you watch more Bundesliga than me. Did he play more of a false 9 or second striker?

I guess now that I say that I said 10, but I guess he was more of a second striker providing support. That sound right?

It's hard to really say his traditional position during his breakout season. That hoffenheim team was wild. They had like the second most goals in the league but gave up as many as they scored. Just a ton of super high scoring games. They played a fast counter attacking style and Firmino spent a bunch of time dropping in to defend but constantly ran at defenders. Think he had like 15 assists or something crazy that last year.

Yea I remember seeing him some throughout the year but thought we had no shot at him because surely bigger sides would go for him

He had some moments today (like the goal) but overall had a bad game. He's not good defensively and was responsible for 2 of Hoffenheims goals.
But the blame should be on Favre. He was sitting on 2 subs as the game was slipping away, and instead on making a change to try and break up the momentum, waited until stoppage time to make the 2nd sub.

Who knew that never signing a goalscorer to replace Lukaku would be a terrible idea?

I’m assuming Neuer is expected to be back for the 1st leg at Anfield?
