How anyone can blame this on Luiz is beyond me.

Because he was out of position and lost his man at the fricking half way line, who then proceeded to beat him to goal. Dude would have scored even if Luiz didn't clip him. He got close enough to the forward by cutting across his back, and the forward's foot hit his knee. It was shite contact, but it was contact none the less.

Yes, Luiz had been in good form recently, but his history as an Arsenal player show he has lapses in judgement and then he makes terrible errors trying to make up for said lapses in judgement.

He switched off right before halftime and he got burnt for it.

I mean, the guy was probably going to score. Luiz stopped him from doing it (whether intentional or not).

There’s a reason that is a red card.

I'm still wondering how Nigel de Jong didn't get sent off in that WC Final.

not talking about the goal. Luiz was caught out. I’m saying if you blame Luiz for the red/loss you’re delusional. This wasn’t “same old Luiz” red card, it was shitty biased referring. If Holding had done that it wouldn’t have been a red.

I thought at worst it should be a yellow on Luiz. But, he put himself in that situation by being caught out of position and leaving it up to the refs to determine if he committed the foul in the box. If he doesn't switch off and then chase down the forward from behind like a maniac, then you don't give up the penalty right before halftime.

Not sure how you are saying it isn't Luiz's fault when his play led directly to the penalty and red card. Whether you agree with the card or not, he is the one responsible for the sequence.

Well, Holding doesn't have those mental lapses that Luiz tends to have. Luiz has given up 6 penalties and has 3 red cards since August 2019. He's earned that reputation from the refs of committing stupid fouls since he's come to Arsenal. Same as Zaha doesn't get a lot of calls when he is actually fouled.

Regardless, just an unfortunate series of events that ruined the game for Arsenal right before halftime. Team looked great before then and still only lost from a wonder goal by Moutinho.
