Match Day 10/7
Posted on 10/7/17 at 7:21 am
Posted on 10/7/17 at 7:21 am
A few MLS games to make up fixture re-adjustments and then everyone will be set on 32 matches played ahead of the final two weekends.
Also, more World Cup qualifying and a couple of potential deciders today in Africa.
All Times CDT
MLS
NYRB - Vancouver, 4 p.m. (Univisión Deportes)
Minnesota - Sporting KC, 7 p.m.
Colorado - Dallas, 8 p.m.
CONCACAF - Matchday 9 of 10
Costa Rica - Honduras, 5 p.m. (beIN Connect 3/beIN español)
Costa Rica will be qualified for Russia with a point today against Honduras. Honduras need a result to get back in the hunt for the playoff place, but their horrendous goal difference is a beast on their shoulders.
UEFA - Matchday 9 of 10
Group A
Sweden - Luxembourg, 11 a.m. (FS+)
Belarus - Netherlands, 1:45 p.m. (ESPN3)
Bulgaria - France, 1:45 p.m. (FS2)
This one is unlikely to be decided today as France come in with a single point lead on Sweden and both rate to win. France will have a trickier matchup away to Bulgaria, so Sweden will be ready to pounce if there's a slip-up. The Dutch need many slip-ups to get back in the hunt for second.
Group B
Faroe Islands - Latvia, 11 a.m.
Andorra - Portugal, 1:45 p.m. (ESPN3)
Switzerland - Hungary, 1:45 p.m. (FS+)
Today is pretty simple for Portugal and Switzerland: Hold serve then duke it out in a winner-take-all on Tuesday at Estadio da Luz. Switzerland maintaining a perfect record and have a three-point lead from their win over Portugal on Matchday 1 in Basel.
Group H
Bosnia-Herzegovina - Belgium, 11 a.m. (ESPN3)
Gibraltar - Estonia, 11 a.m. (ESPN3)
Cyprus - Greece, 1:45 p.m.
Belgium have already qualified, so the race here is for second place between Bosnia and Greece. It's not all rosy in that race, though, as entering today it's the Group H runner-up (currently Bosnia) as the odd team out in the second-place table.
CAF - Matchday 4 or 5 of 6
Group A
Guinea - Tunisia, noon (beIN Connect 4)
Libya - DR Congo, noon (beIN Connect 5)
Tunisia can qualify today with a win an loss or draw by DR Congo, or a draw if DR Congo are beaten by Libya.
Group B
Cameroon - Algeria, 11 a.m. (beIN español)
Nigeria - Zambia, 11 a.m. (beIN)
In Group B, Nigeria are in a similar spot to Tunisia except their path is more direct. Victory over Zambia will secure qualification for the Super Eagles. In a stunner, African champions Cameroon are entering the final two matches of play eliminated from contention.
Group C
Morocco - Gabon, 2 p.m.
In what has turned out to be a more wide open group than expected, Morocco can jump back to the top of the heap with a win today over Gabon after Ivory Coast's Friday draw against Mali. This group will come down to the final matches.
Group D
South Africa - Burkina Faso, 8 a.m. (beIN español)
Cape Verde - Senegal, 12:30 p.m. (beIN Connect 6)
So while this was intended to be Matchday 5, this group will be prolonged after the South Africa-Senegal game was ordered replayed by CAS due to a corrupt referee. It's all very tightly bunched in Group D and still plenty to go with that replay not scheduled to take place until the play-off break in November.
Group E
Uganda - Ghana, 8 a.m. (beIN, beIN Connect 4)
Ghana need victory to avoid elimination today. Uganda can go back to the top of the group with a win, though Egypt are home against Congo tomorrow.
Also, more World Cup qualifying and a couple of potential deciders today in Africa.

A draw or loss by Honduras means we pretty much clinch 3rd with a draw against T&T.

Wish theyd tone the crowd noise down on Uganda Ghana. Just a low drone
As an aside, at fans using the railing to sit on the ledge
ETA: Acheampong brought down in the area. No foul. Ref trying to get out of Uganda alive

Netherlands need to beat Sweden by 7 in order to finish 2nd in the group.
And it's possible that may not be enough to make the next round.

It is so annoying that MLS plays through international breaks.

dammit forgot about those goals affecting sweden as well
Posted on 10/7/17 at 5:45 pm to LSUMJ
Regardless, Dutch aren't beating Sweden 7-0.

Honduras just took a 1-0 lead at Costa Rica. Makes Tuesday a little tougher for us if Honduras holds
