Soccer isn't a way out sport yet. Not going to happen anytime soon.

even with our current level of coaching, that influx of athleticism would be amazing
we'd be borderline top 10
we'd be like an african team, but with discipline
nah. i disagree. xavi can keep the ball like no other because he grew up playing the game and developed those skills and vision.
kobe bryant can dunk a basketball, yes partly from genetics, but a lot of it has to do with developing those muscles and athleticism from playing basketball is whole life
i'm not denying the fact that kobe bryant wouldn't or couldn't be a good player had he played all his life, i am just saying that a lot of times, percieved athleticism isn't always genetic, it is acquired via the skills that have been practiced throughout ones life.
PS: I'm the least eloquent person on earth. I apologize for that

athleticism is like 80-85% genetic and 15-20% "use it or you lose it"

i already presumed a skill level developed in the current american system

kobe spent what 8 years of his youth in italy? probably played tons of soccer during those years as well as basketball obviously. but thats not to say that just b/c he grew up playing basketball is why he's so amazing these days. there are plenty of stories of kids not playing a sport til 15 or so and becoming professionals b/c they are just that athletically gifted.

soccer is skill-based, so it's doubtful
same with baseball
same with baseball

plenty of stories
I'm sure there are examples, but to just assume i'd take your word for it is ....well....

sports where you can get by with athleticism have those stories. lots of examples in football and basketball

soccer is skill-based
soccer is far less skill based than baseball
i'm thinking of lineman in football as the only non-skill based position in sports....and rugby
edit: a lot of the defensive positions as well require a great deal of athleticism...but more athleticism than skill??? nah
i'm obviously missing some....enlighten me.

skill-based yes these pro athletes are born with a innate ability to excel at these skills. thats why you and I can't do it at that level.

That was sick. Why stifle this kid's development? Leave Cesc be!

I haven't watched the whole match, but De Gea has looked confused a couple of times. Has he played well? I know no one gets to the Thiago ball, but he hasn't looked very confident.
