If its between 50 mil from arsenal, Suarez on the bench or 20-25 really late in the window they'd be silly to throw away a year of champions league money over basically pride. Because out of those 3 situations the only one that has a small chance of ending in 4th place is 50 mil well spent.

Given those choices, I'd rather he sit the bench.

Pride? Its guaranteeing your biggest rival the spot you yourself are seeking above basically any other success you could obtain. Far more than pride.

So you're saying that there is a 0% chance of Suarez actually staying at Liverpool and playing? They could force him to rot in the reserves, but if they keep him and he stays with the first team, I'm not sure why they wouldn't play him.

ETA: Your also not considering that selling Suarez to the 4th place team could prevent them from getting into the UCL not only this year, but if Suarez excels at Arsenal, it could take years for Liverpool to catch back up.

This is the single most important point in the entire situation.

Well if I'm not mistaken, didn't he admit that he read the clause incorrectly?

Going from this it still seems like a difference in interpretation.
quote:

The clause is sufficiently ambiguous to leave doubts over how the stalemate will be resolved. Suárez's camp saw £40m as the threshold price at which Liverpool would have to sell, something that was publicly revealed by Arsenal's £40,000,001 bid. The bid, though, tested the clause and revealed that Liverpool saw £40m as the point at which they must start to negotiate, not the point at which they are obliged to sell. The PFA has been consulted about potential mediation in the search for a solution.

Suarez on the bench

Just me but I'd tell him he has two options he could either play and go for champions league WITH US or he could sit on the bench 'til his contract ran out. That in doing that, our valuation of him would go to £70m - £75m and unless that was met, (Haha wouldn't happen especially in the winter transfer window) there was no chance in hell he would ever move until his contract runs out with that large a
fee and not playing first team regularly.

So in short frick you Suárez! You can honor a contract like all normal human beings fricking do or you can rot in hell (a la sitting on the bench with no PT & no CL).

Right, I thought he said he read it incorrectly after that article was released. Didn't he mention it sometime last week?

If there is a clause in this contract, and Suarez feels that Liverpool is not fulfilling it, then this will certainly go to arbitration. If it reaches that point, there will probably be a good amount of bad blood.

His odds aren't good if it goes to arbitration.

Well I thought so too, but this new article from the Guardian mentioned it again, so maybe it is a matter of interpretation.

It beggars belief that 'Pool would actually put a clause of that nature into the contract to begin with.

It completely contradicts his comments from this season. And I wouldn't put it past him to lie through those fat beaver teeth of his.

Probably not, but if it gets to that point, I'm betting his camp thinks they can force LFC into a sale. As a political move, this puts a lot of pressure on the team, as they have a player who is unhappy, and has put the management into question. Liverpool don't have to budge though, and Suarez's last resort could be to simply refuse to play, which I think is something Liverpool would be willing to risk.

As we all know the clause is the linch pin and it all rides on how you interpret it. If the EPL (arbiter) feels that the clause does imply what LFC are saying it does then I would give him the options listed above, end story.

I know it was a different situation but does everybody have amnesia and forgot about the Tevez situation. I know it's different but that's a perfect example of a club telling a player to sit the frick down and shut up. He did then played then was sold later to benefit the club (how it should be). That's basically what we are telling Suárez now ... shut up all will be well for the year play for us and if we don't make it you will be gone but there is no fricking way we will sell you to a rival so shut the hell up and fall in line.

If they actually told Suarez that then Liverpool deserve what they get I agree with beast. But if they did they are the stupidest business men ever. Just don't believe they would tell that. You have no reason to.
This is him and arsenal trying to apply pressure in the public domain. Screw em

I'm growing very tired of Suarez. Between his diving, biting, racial slurs and his crying and wantaway antics...he just isn't worth the B.S. love his skill but just can't stand the person.

Sell him outside the prem or let him rot on the bench.

If the clause was in Suarez's favor he wouldn't be doing all this BS in the media...

You probably know more about this than I, but would Liverpool face sanctions from the FA if they offered him to Real for 25 and ignored Arsenal's offer of 40?
