Bad Start. Wool sheared. Season still young. Pretty big week transfers/matches.

Agger will sign a contract extension this week. Wages will be increased to £80k/wk.

There are also a couple Championship teams looking at Spearing.

Tell Agger I will chip in an extra $5 a week to his contract if he quits getting red cards.

Guessing he's on your fantasy team? Because I'm cool with him disqualifying himself from the arsenal match.

They must have a DM in mind if they are loaning Spearing. I guess if Lucas were to get injured again Allen could fill his role. He played DM for Swansea a few times last season.

Trying not to draw too many conclusions from what was essentially one half.

Suarez needs to finish better. He had a great chance in yhe first half and just didn't get it done.

We need someone better than downing. He just won't cut it there. No real threat.

Kelly played ok - not sure if he played due to injury or some decision?

Hope it was nerves for borini - not a good showing.

I had tempered my expectations while watching the friendlies - this will not be a quick transition. But we will be a dangerous team at times this season. Hope it's put together sooner rather than later. With our schedule it could be a very negative beginning.

The good news? Arsenal and tottenham did not impress me -if we can put it together I think there is vulnerability in some of teams that finished ahead of us last year.

Our competition for 4th/5th drew this week (I don't see Newcastle as a real challenge). That's definitely a good thing. But to say we deserve to be anywhere near those two spots right now is absolutely ludicrous. We were beyond awful in the second half.

What did you see from Liverpool that makes you think they are better than Newcastle? Just an honest question. I didn't see Pool's game, but watched most of Newcastle's. I also listened to TalkSport trash Pool's play for an hour today. They really laid into Borini, saying he isn't a top level player.

This is a project that will take time. The chances of us finishing above 6th this season are very slim. Rodgers needs some time to piece together his squad.

Just based on last season. I thought we were the better team, but Newcastle got hot. That doesn't happen every year. Plus I would say our transfer window was better than theirs. Once Ba or Cisse go down that team becomes a one trick horse. Krul also gets rattled quite easily, ala Van Persie last year.

I meant "real" challenge as just that. I think they'll be close, but at the end of the season we'll pull away. They can't overachieve forever.

I think 5th is a realistic expectation, considering this team on paper. 4th is a pipe dream, but....

Meh. He may not be a top level player but I wouldn't pass judgement on his first ever PL appearance. Kind of silly in my opinion. He isn't an out-and-out striker. His impact on a match will come through movement and quick passing. He will be easy to bash until the squad starts to succeed.

I agree.

This was their main gripe. They said he is not a goal scoring threat and showed zero creativity. Still pretty harsh after one game. Just the opposite for Hazard and Oscar. They come out and look good and everyone is ready to crown them. I'd rather have a larger sample size before passing definitive judgement.
