@MartinKelly1990: What I can say is its not the worst injury I've had, and for sure ill be fighting for my place next year when I'm back fitter and stronger!

I've had an impressive three, yes three, ACL tears in my life.
When I saw the Kelly replay I cringed and knew that he likely tore something.

Nice read and I agree... This is going to be a frustrating season, but I am really looking forward to watching the growing pains...
One thing I can say so far for Rodgers, that frustrated the hell out of me last year, are his substitutions... Suso for Borini (granted he was hurt), Henderson for Sterling... they make sense to me...

Yea, looked like MCL to me. The way they reacted, looked like it could have just been sprained, but I guess there's legit damage there. And I can't say anything that hasn't really already been sad. Proud of the way they played and fought even in the last 10 or so minutes while playing with 9 after Kelly went down. I was pleased to see the subs and change in tactics and really showed BR trying to do some in game adjustments to keep us competing. Suso looked good coming in, but playing with the flat 4 was leaving us vulnerable in our half. Henderson coming on and moving Suso up top was great to see so we could continue to press up top with a 4-3-2.
I'm very interested to see what the lineup will be from here on out. IMO Borini's looking a little better with his runs and gaining chemistry with Suarez, but is he still our best option? Suso's played well and I hope he continues to get looks. Same with Henderson, and he just fits in better in a 3 man midfield with Allen and Gerrard than Shelvey. And of course, please let Coates be the guy at CB.

From LFC Website:

Martin Kelly is likely to be out of action for a significant period of time after scans revealed he suffered an ACL rupture of his right knee during the match against Manchester United on Sunday.
The England international will now require ACL reconstruction.
Meanwhile, fellow defender Daniel Agger, who was stretchered off the pitch 13 minutes before Kelly limped out of action, has suffered a significant bone bruise to the left knee.
No ligament damage was sustained but further tests will be carried out before it can be established when he will be able to return to training.
To add to Brendan Rodgers' woes, Fabio Borini has considerable swelling to the inner aspect of his right ankle though no fracture was detected on the X-ray.
The club's medical staff will wait for the swelling to reduce before an MRI scan can take place tomorrow to assess any soft tissue damage and determine when he may be able to return to playing.

So does Coates start on defense in place of Kelly?
Posted on 9/24/12 at 11:12 am to pvilleguru
In place of Agger? I'd hope so, but i think you'll see a rotation of him and Carra... Perhaps, Wilson may get a game or two, as well...

I wouldn't count on it

You're probably right, if past line-up decisions are any indication, but I honestly just don't see how Carra can keep getting starts, he's a gigantic liability.
I guess Rodgers thinks Coates isn't up to par from an experience or leadership standpoint, but I'd rather us lose games now while he learns from his mistakes, then play Carra for any perceived advantage he gives when he's going to be gone next season and have Coates sitting on the bench not gaining experience.
ETA: thought we were taking about him replacing Agger not Kelly, my argument still applies for CB though.

There is one thing I'm confident about: Rodgers will play whoever he feels is best suited to play.

You'll see Carra in there at some point, due to the amount of games we play... It may be an opportunity to see Wilson, Wisdom or Sama, too...

I certainly expect a rotation of some sort, but I'm just afraid of Carra being featured significantly more then our future first-teamers.
I do agree with that Beast, I think Rodgers will play who he thinks is best and not play favorites, which is awesome. I'm just preemptively disagreeing with him, which might a a bit unfait but whatever.

I wouldn't mind seeing Wisdom at RB and Johnson at LB instead of Enrique..
Or Johnson at RB and Robinson at LB..

This! This is honestly one of the things I love most about him. He is not afraid to give a young guy a chance. If you play well and impress on the pitch, you'll see the field.

I just don't get it. What happened with him? Sure he faltered last season down the stretch, but he just doesn't seem to fit at all these days. Even in Europa where a man of his skills should be excelling, he looks like garbage. Is it the scheme? Perhaps he was just more suited for Dalglish's system? Or is it laziness?
ETA: And there is always the Stewart Downing option. I would like to see him at LB against West Brom this week.

I want Robinson in on the left. He dealt with Theo incredibly well in his first significant amount of minutes a few years ago. I remember the pundits raving about the kid after he shut down Walcott against Arsenal.
Then we got Enrique and Jack was demoted.
I think this next stretch of easy games is the perfect time to bloody the kid. And I think after facing the likes of Arsenal and City and shining in those appearances, he can handle it. This is the time to move forward, not back. Let the growing pains happen now.

yes, I feel comfortable with his player selection...
He almost has a pass in the sense of, this is what he has to work with... Blood in some youngsters along the way and let them make the mistakes now, like TT142 said...
Luckily, I think FSG will let him stick around to see the fruits of his labor instead of off him, like the russian gangster...
I get infuriated when I read articles like... "Is BR's job on the line?"

Some idiot American commentator said this during the Young Boys match and I almost threw the remote at the TV.
