Yea why doesn't Rodgers put Suarez out right and he can drift inside while Johnson will add width. That would allow Borini to play centrally. Maybe that will get the best out of him.

Borini's successful at Roma was when he played wide with Totti and Osvaldo more central and Pjanic behind. It was those three that broke down the defense and Borini just had a knack for cleaning up cleared balls and making good runs to finish assists from those three etc. . .

When he "created" it was by causing turnovers in dangerous positions which he's very good at.

As I was saying during the transfer, I think he's a kind of limited attacking player but can thrive when there's a couple of players Totti/Osvaldo or Saurez/? opening up spaces and setting him up. He struggled at Roma mightily when he wasn't paired with with two attacking options that created.

The final piece to our puzzle is a true #10.

I still think Stevie offers the best chance to win over Shelvey or Henderson...

See for me it all depends on how well they can keep the ball. Gerrard and Suarez combined for 46 loss of possessions..that can't happen. Gerrard had the most on the team with 24. I think we are infinitely more dangerous if someone can play Gerrard's role with a bit more efficiency.

I agree, Borini has been our worst player so far in terms of performance. But if Borini finds form, he will fit right in because of how he plays. I still think giving him the ball on the wing in 1v1 situations is not a good idea. He hasn't shown the ability to beat a player one time this season.

Suso has been named in Liverpool's full squad for Europa.

Exactly. His success was always when the buildup was happening centrally or on the opposite wing and he simply needed to make runs and finish/clean up. That and of course his pressing. He's young and may improve but matching up 1v1 on the wing was his weakness at Roma too last year.

Is phenomenal. Almost makes up for his poor form, to be honest. He and Suarez seem to have unlimited motors and they have already caused dozens of turnovers.

Borini is a good fit because he has no problem dropping deep and getting involved in slow build-up play. I don't think he has been as bad as most people think, but like I said, he is an easy target since he has never played in the PL before. It's a lot harder to blame Suarez and Gerrard when you know in the back of your mind what they have accomplished.

Borini's impact on a match will not always be with a goal or assist, and a lot of fans need to realize that. We have 0 goals from open play in 270 minutes this season. The offense as a whole has been poor.

Fantastic! I'm to the point right now where I almost don't give a shite about Europa or the League Cup. After the Hearts/Arsenal debacle want to use these midweek matches for guys like Suso, Morgan, or anyone trying to get match-fit (Assaidi). We have to basically have two squads if we plan to stay competitive in the league.

I agree. It's a great platform to get some younger guys some time on the pitch.

And Sterling has the physical attributes to be effective too. I think its the midfield that's the problem. Allen is great but Sahin and Gerrard didn't cause much havoc with their pressing, at least in the Arsenal game. I noticed once we got past the forwards we found things easier. Diaby dribbled past the midfielders for most of the game.

That wouldnt have happened if Lucas was there... I'm sure Sahin will be better in time, he just arrived...

In terms of pressing and creating turnovers, the forwards will always be better than the midfielders. That's just how it's going to be since we don't have a very mobile midfield. It's also the nature of the system.

Once the ball gets back into the midfield, our players drop a bit deeper and quit the pressing.

This.

Would have been incredible. His leadership could have helped Borini out immensely.

I have been a lurker on this board for a while now. Felt like it was time to join.
These are tough times. All we can do is hunker down and get through this. One thing is for sure no matter what happens we will still be Liverpool Football Club.
Now that that's out of the way we really do need someone upfront who is technical enough and a good finisher.
