BBC reporting that Liverpool has offered the job to Roberto Martinez ... but he may turn it down if he doesn't have complete control.

Looks like it'll definitely be Martinez
He's holding a presser on Tuesday

Why are we completely anti-Martinez?
Certainly a good tactician ... just untested in a pressure situation such as Liverpool.
If there is a complete reset, which it appears to be around the club, I'd rather a young guy with fresh ideas, and Martinez is certainly that.
Would like to see how he does with some financial backing ... but certainly once his Wigan teams gelled they were a joy to watch. And that was with presumably less talent then that he'd have at Liverpool.
IDK ... I just don't think this club needs a rock star hire right now. I just think we need a guy to build on and let's re-evaluate this in 2-5 years and lay a verdict on it after that. Because I don't think they go in on a guy like Roberto unless this is a project.

FIFY.
But seriously, I'd just rather someone young and also who's spent time at a major club and knows the pressure that entails. That's why I'd rather AVB. I'm just afraid of another Woy.

I think this is a scary time for all of right now as fans of Liverpool. I think its VERY safe to say that if we don't get it right, we WILL be left behind and be seen a just another middling team.
The technical director hire ... MUST be nailed. The manager ... MUST be nailed. This summer's transfers ... MUST be nailed. There's a ton of pressure on the club this summer to literally get everything right. And the real pressure lies on the new manager, who's job will be to rebuild this club for the long-term while at the same time being more competitive immediately. It's unreasonable ... yet the climate at Anfield. It's not an easy gig.

Yeah it's really make or break time. The stakes will be even higher next season than they were this one. Will make it even more exciting with even higher highs and lower lows. I'm just ready to get underway.

This is how I feel about it. We're already trying to play catch up with the other big clubs; if Martinez or whoever doesn't work out, it will really set us back.
If it's Martinez, apparently he wants full control. So I feel like it could go one of two ways; either really great, or incredibly terrible. Like you said, this season is pretty crucial to Pool re-establishing themselves to be a top side, which would be a huge load for an unproven manager to carry.
After reading some things about him, I really felt good about AVB. Thought he would be a home run hire, and work well with the club.

Which is why we didn't get him, I guess...

Well the players don't run the club on Merseyside, so I'd imagine we'd be alright.

No doubt... I hope the the ITKs are wrong. LFC play with a high defensive line and Pepe sweeps up behind them... Our defense is a perfect match for AVBs system...

Pepe is the essence of a "sweeper keeper." He fits AVB's keeper role perfectly, and he's damned good at it.
Jesus our defense would be retarded good under Andre's direction.

Everyone needs to quit acting like fan boy idiots if Martinez gets hired. Simply put, no one knows anything. Everyone can guess, but nobody is ever held accountable.
I will trust that he's brought in for legitimate reasons and be excited about it. A good young mind and someone who is sharp tactically isn't the worst thing in the world. Nobody on the outside (and certainly not us) knows what the new management structure will look like so even guessing at all this is pretty silly.
The small club mentality thing can certainly exist but I would be surprised if that was the case here. Martinez is NOT Hodgson. He hasn't been running middling teams for 30 years. I mean shite, the guy that we're all fricking drooling over in Guardiola, took the Barca job only having ever coached Barca B's. Biggest club in the world, handing it over to an internal coach.
Also, this isn't make or break time for Liverpool. It just isn't. We can do exactly what we did last year and everything will be ok. It's when you're on the precipice of being relegated that it's make or break time.
So while getting back to prominence and first the CL is important, it's not like it has to be done immediately no matter how much we all wish that to be the case.

I don't appreciate you saying I'm wrong McCarthy.

I disagree with this. Im not sure how much fan support a new manager would have if a season like this was repeated. No one has any real fears of relegation, but it's the trend to the middle of the table that's got everyone worried. No Liverpool fan wants to be a middle of the table club. With the early departure of Hodgson, the brief period of Dalglish, and with a new guy coming in, I think this is absolutely a make or break year. A lesser extent than relegation worries, but a make or break year nonetheless.
