Formations, hopes and dreams, youth players, aspirations etc...
I would love to see us in a 3-5-2, 5-3-2

I want to fit Rubin in there somehow, but he's going to have to settle for first off the bench.

I'm very hopeful of Cameron being at the CDM for Stoke. I think if he can continue to develop there for a few more years, it could pay huge dividends for us - especially if Jurgen is determined to play Bradley higher up and the diamond formation.
Cameron does play some nice deep balls for guys to run onto. If he can continue to pick up some of the other nuances, this formation just gets better and better for us.
I still think 4-2-3-1 is our best formation right now, but I also think we likely need two strikers a lot of the time, so that lends itself to the diamond. I would wonder about the 3-5-2 as so few teams play that, our players may take time to adjust to it, and they aren't together as a consistent group enough for a length of time to perfect it in non-WC years.

3-5-2 actually weirdly enough suits our strengths. We lack talent out wide, except for Fabian and Yedlin, both of whom excel in advanced roles but could use some coverage defensively. It also allows us to pair strikers, and seeing as we don't have anyone who can play lone striker, that's key.
I don't think it will ever happen, but it's worth trying. It's also versatile, and it allows a guy like JJ to really dictate play from the back.

I know Cameron has been playing, and playing well, as a CDM at Stoke, although it seems like he really just stays on the hip of the opponents most dynamic midfielder, but I like his versatility and raw athleticism on the back line.
Really like the line up, either way.

I don't keep up with the youth talent enough, so take it easy on me.
What position exactly does Hyndman play? I thought it was CDM, but I noticed in FIFA (I know) he is listed as CAM.
Is everyone still high on Carter-Vickers?
I just noticed we have a guy on the Athletico Madrid youth team. How is he doing?

3/5-3-2 is one of my all-time favorite formations, and the USMNT fits it perfectly. It perfectly highlights our speed and overall athleticism, and we would be ferocious against near anyone with that shape.

Yomba(?) is at Atletico. Doing well supposedly. I think I heard that he had gotten a run with the reserves and scored a goal, but I'm not sure.
Hyndman was a #10 for youth squads for Fulham and the U.S., but for Fulham now he's playing a bit further back because his passing range is fantastic and he's good at switching the field and dictating play. Very solid technically. Tidy on the ball.

I wonder if Klinsmann is tactically astute enough to implement a 3 man back line effectively. I seriously doubt that he is.

I like Klinsmann (probably more than most of this board) for all that he's done so far in helping build the sport more here, but, yeah, I don't see this happening.
