In importance yes, but not in size. It's only ten teams. I meant in size

I get what you mean by size. Gold Cup and Copa America last one summer. I know the shite teams in CONCACAF have to qualify beforehand, but the big teams only play in it over the summer. Look at UEFA, it lasts 2 years. Both regions would have meaningful games to make money off of over the course of 2 years.

It could be a great tournament with 16 teams like the Euros. The US would qualify more than not.

This is an idea that I like in terms of the tournament itself and even World Cup qualifying. I'd be concerned that the USMNT/USSF would get even more marginalized in the political shitfest that would be CAF than already occurs in CONCACAF, though.

I think I would like it but I would want to wait a little while. While soccer is growing as quickly as it is right now, I'd rather be qualifying every time.

This is my question. Fewer than 8 and I doubt the US could qualify.

Are you just talking about 2014?

Yeah but there's that issue of the not.

Missing a world cup would devastate the growing interest in US soccer.

Would it be possible to have a friendly cup competition that consists of the top 3 teams from the Gold Cup and the top 5 teams from the Copa America?

When would you have this take place?

I didn't know the schedule of competitions over 4 years so that is why I asked the question.

Probably. But another Copa America around the corner could help get that interest back.

I love the combo idea, but we have to, have to, have to qualify for the World Cup above all else in order to maintain casual fan interest every quad-annual interest.

I don't want to potentially have to play in La Paz, Quito, and Mexico City in WCQ. Also, the ones who would be screwed with this arrangement are Jamaica/Honduras/T&T/Costa Rica. They would go from having a 25-50% chance of a WC to a 5% chance if not less.
