Let's Discuss Michael Owen...

Currently Reading Soccer Men and perhaps the most interesting mini-bio is the one concerning Michael Owen.
Admittedly I did not follow the sport during Owen's meteoric rise to stardom in the late 90s and early 2000s. I feel like Owen could have been lauded as the greatest player of his generation, before injuries killed his career before his peak age at 24. He had the speed and finishing ability of Henry, and the control and dribbling ability of few of his colleagues.
His goal against Argentina in 1998 is still one of the greatest in World Cup history.
I feel like he's the biggest "What If..." in football history.
I feel like he was England's missing link during Scholes', Beckham's prime and the rise of Gerrard, Rooney and yes even Fat Frank.

if you peruse his twitter it appears he is into horse racing.
great player in his early years though. things started to go south for him around 03/04. joined real, never really got going there and the injuries followed him to newcastle.

Well Owen played like six different sports as a kid (his section covers it), but he never showed any interests in anything other than that.

one of his last goals for liverpool against arsenal stands out for me. henry had a hat trick that day and the invincibles won but owen scored a fine goal to give them a 2-1 lead at the time. looked like arsenal was going to lose their first game for a minute. sami hyypia was a beast in the air that day.

He is. My cousin was interning at a Breeding consignor over there and personally showed him a couple of horses. My cousin is also a big Man U fan. Boooooooooooooo

He was a magnificent poacher...also that brochure he sent out to clubs years ago was the bomb dot com. I'm going use the same template for my resume.

Alongside Brazilian Ronaldo when it comes to the best pure finishers I've ever seen.
Its a shame he wasted his time at United, on one hand it shows the ultimate competitor believing he could break into it, but in reality i think he just wanted to get a couple of medals.
He's really big into Horse Racing and owns quite a few, that's supposed to be one of the main motivators behind him moving to Stoke so h can be close to his stables.
I'd love for him to have one more year of injury free play just t remind people what he can do

Was probably the main reason my head was turned towards LFC in the beginning... it was that goal in the '98 WC...

I remember Owen as a boss for Liverpool when I was a kid. Sadly, he wasn't anywhere near that level when he joined us a few years ago. Just a reserve striker that showed us glimpses of greatness from time to time.
I understand why we let him go, but I'll miss Owen in a Red Devil kit.

I could post all the accolades and praise that I have, but it's just too much.
Michael Owen was a phenomenal player. The move to Real Madrid was made with $$$ in his eyes, but who could really blame him? If he stays at Liverpool and avoids the injuries there's no telling what his career numbers would be.
