Yeah, I don't think it's fair to lump GAM (or Gio for that matter) into a group of failed talent like Adu and Santino.

If you play in a World Cup as an American, I think you've fulfilled at least some of your soccer destiny.

What? He most definitely did not and he definitely is not in that conversation for me.

One can absolutely make the argument that GAM did not live up to his original hype. Maybe Donovan didn’t either in terms of club career, but he always brought it for the national team regardless of where he was playing.

I don’t think Donovan is wrong in what he said, and GAM’s comments reek of insecurity from a guy who knows the comments are more true than false.

Let’s not giddily overlook the established fact that Landon Donovan is a grade-A, certified self-righteous a-hole.

Accomplishments at the club level count, too. It’s basically two douches arguing, but Landon needs to be checked often.

The question was who was right. I think it was bad form to call out GAM but I don’t think he’s factually wrong. Your feelings on Donovan as a person could be an entirely separate thread

Well, yeah... he's a professional athlete.

Specifically, he is a pro athlete that played for the USMNT who has the market cornered on unearned self-righteousness.

Wasn't Eddie Johnson scoring goals during Brazil qualification while Donovan was playing with ladyboys in Cambodia?

They both scored the goals in the dos a cero vs Mexico to clinch our World Cup berth.

It was the last the USMNT goal for both.

Nobody asked who was right.

You seem to have feelings about Eddie… What even is your entire response to me, though?

Both being colossal asshats isn’t some mutually exclusive argument.

Stat comparison from the article. Donovan may be an arse, but Johnson is delusional.

USMNT Goals: 19 vs 57

World Cup Appearances: 2 vs 12

World Cup Goals: 0 vs 5

MLS Appearances: 201 vs 340

MLS Goals: 71 vs 145

MLS Cup Wins: 0 vs 6

Premier League Appearances: 19 vs 17

Premier League Goals: 0 vs 2

I don’t get your question. I’m just saying a lot of people have opinions on Donovan that could be its own separate thread.

My feelings about Eddie is that he’s butthurt about getting called out (I get it) and that he wasn’t as good as he thinks he was.

So your thoughts on Eddie are valid, but mine on Donovan aren’t? We’re making similar points, except I said they both are count.

I played devils advocate, you said MY feelings on LD could be another thread… Just trying to understand based on your wording.

I think your thoughts are valid, wasn’t trying to say otherwise. I do think Donovan in general gets too much schtick but some of that I will admit is self inflicted.

My brother in christ, why do you have to make everything a blood feud when someone disagrees with you on this board?

Words are important in the English language.

When a sentence from another user says “Your thoughts on …”, particularly in a reply to my comment/post, it implies a direct statement.

The posters on this board are pretty keen to entrench themselves in one side and belittle the other. Don’t gaslight me trying to make me feel like it’s only me that gets testy around here.

I respond in kind to what I see. In this case, I asked clarification. Maybe fix wording and be intentional?

Also, it’s really only you that I ever argue with here… Geez, I wonder why?

Meh. You’re picking things out. Like normal.

Cry if you’re upset, brother. He and I came to an understanding in just a few posts. Don’t like the words I use? Don’t reply/butt out.
