Wow the no U-18 thing is nuts. England's talent pool is eventually going to suffer for this.

Plenty of things in life more important than whether or not the three lions make it out of group stage every 4 years, mate.

The English youth system is producing better English players than the last 20 years

It will be fine

England will be fine, but they will produce less talented players than if this policy wasn’t instituted. Competition breeds excellence.

And the EPL will still buy young foreign players only for considerably more than they could have when they identified them 2-4 years prior.

Kinda hard to tell bc most of the youth players are British in the academies until around 16

So will those two years make a big difference we don’t know yet, but it will force youth set ups to work even harder for sure.

Of the major leagues England and Germany have a huge influx of players from the EU

Others still do great with mostly domestic players

Wish you had that approach about MLS

Well yea you are not buying 18 and 19 year olds for your youth academy a majority of the time anyway

It was already hard to get non EU players under 18

And let’s be honest here how many academy players actually become successful at the top flight from their club

A majority play their career in the lower divisions

That’s exactly what I was getting at. Rather than getting the kid in the youth setup at a cut rate price when he’s young, they’ll pay an inflated price when he’s 18-20, and additionally will have a smaller pool to choose from for players they can sell on that aren’t quite first team caliber. Someone like Rafa Camacho for example that’s Portuguese but had been in English youth setups since he was a kid. There’s $6MM liverpool will never see going forward. Kijana Hoever was just sold for 10MM. It’s a double edged sword. You’ll pay more for the 18 year old you knew was class at 16, and you won’t be able to develop and sell for a profit the Dutch kid you’ve had in training.

If I’m reading this correctly then only UK kids will be allowed to sign for a club, forget EU

It’s going to force British clubs to invest more in their academy and get better

This if handled correctly could be a positive

It will take a bunch of work between the FA and clubs

But there will be easy loops holes for European players. English rules it doesn’t matter your nationality if you live within X miles from the club.

Kids will get their relatives and shite to sponsor them to move to the UK. The country is already a huge melting pot of people from the EU and they are not getting kicked out.

it wouldn’t be, but I’d think they’d approve anyone that is an established pro that wants to sign in the EFL.

Now if you’re non-league, they should have a way to make sure your signings aren’t just laundering people into the country
