Is Tim Howard the best option at GK?

Nick Rimando has played extremely well this Gold Cup, and Brad Guzan had a great year with Aston Villa.
I know it sounds crazy, but I think both of these guys could be better options. They make some great saves, and they don't scream at their defense the entire game (I think this is bad for confidence and chemistry).
I caught myself in shock when Rimando saved that shot in the first half (as well as the rebound) because it seems like Howard never stops the should-be-goals anymore. To be a great GK, you have to make great saves.
I am perfectly confident with Howard, and I think he is still world class, but at what point do we give one of these young guns a chance?

There has been a lot of Howard haters/doubters on this board recently.
I'm not exactly sure where it has come from.
To answer your question, yes, Howard is still our best GK but it would not be doom and gloom should he ever get forced out of a game due to injury.

It's not like Howard dominated for Everton this year. I think there is reason to doubt.
I have seen some of these "haters" and "doubters" and I was hoping this could be a thread to investigate where some of those feelings come from.

I see where the doubt comes from. Howard hasn't been quite as effective as he has in the past, IMO. Rimando has played well, but still has had some shaky moments here and there. Personally, I really like Guzan. He's a great shot blocker and seems to control his box well, but his distribution could improve.
Needless to say, Broski put it pretty well. There wouldn't be a ton of doom and gloom if we were to be without Howard at some point.

not saying he isn't the number 1, but his stats have declined this year.

Howard was top 5 in the world around here in June 2010.

And it doesn't help him that Guzan had a decent year
But, as long as someone else doesn't absolutely go off (i.e., make him look inadequate) while he is still playing at an exceptional level, he'll keep the starting job, and he deserves to

This past season was pretty bad for Howard, but he seems to always be solid for the red, white and blue

Tim had a few health issues this year. Including breaking his fricking back. I'd assume this has been noted?

I realize it is not as bad of an injury but breaking a rib in the World Cup did not seem to slow him down too much. Tim gives us hope vs the high quality teams. Guzan is for WC in Russia. We NEED Tim Howard in Brazil.
He is a god when playing for the red, white, and blue.
Him scoring a goal for Everton while Donovan was on the team was EPIC. I just wanted to mention that.

Guzan was in better form for the 12-13 season. It's Howard's spot to lose, but Guzan could play the usurper heading into Brazil.
It's a good problem to have.

Do you ever watch him play with RSL? Don't be shocked. The dude is an awesome shot stopper. His distribution is so so, though.

This sounds crazy. You just said Howard is world class. Do you think we have 3 world class keepers?
