What about FJ at LB and DMB at LM with Deuce withdrawn from Jozy and LD at RM?

Not a bad option at all, but that formation leaves Zusi out of the starting 11. If the goal is to get our best 11 on the field, I think Zusi has to be out there.

Even with as good as he's played lately, I'm not sure DMB is in our top 11. Great option as a 65th minute sub, though.

Not a bad problem Jurgen has created for himself...

Can y'all tell me what Zusi provides on the wing that Fabian does not?

Zusi is a level headed, very technical player who reads the game well and busts his arse on the defensive end. That being said, FJ is a better natural athlete and is superior in the 1v1 situations. I love the constant service that Zusi provides on the right wing, and he rarely turns the ball over, something that I feel FJ can be prone to at times. Zusi is also a legit threat on goal from 35+ yards out and a great set piece taker, FJ is not.
My biggest reason for wanting Donovan and Zusi on the wings is this: Imho I think FJ is far too valuable to us at LB, he can come upfield and overlap all day long, and isn't a defensive liability like DMB is. I think we can have the same offensive prowess that we've been having even with FJ at LB, we won't be sacrificing anything because we have capable guys other than him. I know it may be murky now, but the thought of FJ and Timmy Chandler blazing down the touchlines on overlapping runs makes me oh so excited.

I think Stu Holden deserves a mention here.. If he gets back to pre-injury form that is. The names I would like to see out there in some logical formation (Klinsmen's job):

Bradley, Holden, Dempsey, Donovan, Altidore, EJ/FJ/GZ (don't really care).

If run DMB is a late game sub, and we need a goal, do you push FJ up from LB or do you let DMB play LW?

I'm not a fan of swapping out a LB mid match unless they are getting torn to pieces.

The problem is that we haven't seen DMB play LW, which I would like to see ftr.

I guess Shea is the go-to sub if Zusi starts on the wing and FJ stays at LB.

yes, that's what I'd do, especially if Shea keeps this good form up and gets some PT at stoke this year and looks like he's capable of playing.

I've said that too, to switch FJ and DMB to see how it looks, but after seeing DMB get forward enough(which he does great), I don't think I'm the only one to see that he doesn't deliver very accurate/useful service at all.. he either hits a weak shot to the GK or blasts a cross that's too far. I do appreciate his play because he's very good moving off the ball and finding space(you can tell he plays in the creative Liga MX)

A lot of people here get too caught up in starting positions. It's far more important to observe where players receive the ball than where they're standing on the opening kickoff.

I agree with this sentiment. I just think that FJ is most useful to us at LB where he is defending for us, as opposed to DMB defending, which has been very shaky at times.

I am curious to see if Klinsmanm considers using Donovan as a super sub in the next batch of qualifiers. Odds are one of our attacking players will be sluggish after 60 minutes, and he would be a very dynamic sub.

Donovan deserves to start. Period. And I want to see him in the playmaker role that a few of y'all want to see go to Dempsey. LD has been SO good there this GC that it's hard to see him playing on the wing anymore.
