He's not fast, nor is he particularly flashy by any stretch of the imagination. He's disciplined, breaks up opponent's possession (superb in the Mexican game), and has a positive passing range.
His lack of pace is concerning, but he has his uses in qualifying much like a Pablo Mastroeni circa 2009.

Bring back Ricardo Clark.

Beckerman isn't as terrible as some make him out to be, he's just limited. Just a decent/mediocre player who doesn't really hurt us that much when he's out there.
Anyway, Jurgen just doesn't seem that inclined to play Williams in the middle, for whatever reason.

Honestly I didn't like Beckerman at first but he's won me over. He completes most of his passes and is good at breaking up play. He is less clumsy than Edu, in my opinion.

He's a limited athlete, but a skilled player. He won't win us a world cup, but he will take us down to Azteca and drag our boys out of there with three points. His Concacaf Champions League experience can't be understated either. RSL has been down in central America competing in the CCL for the past three years, and they've been pretty successful. I'll take Danny Williams' ability any day, but in this critical tie, we need Beckerman's experience.
ETA: I do hope we arrive in Jamaica the day of the match, I would't want Beckerman hanging out with the locals.

Anybody else think that Edu looks retarded when he plays? He has more WTF moments than anybody else on the national team.

Edu is the USMNT player most likely to have a moment where he looks like he's just some frat boy playing at the local intramural field. I've seen Edu whiff on shots, trip over the ball, ect.

He did something in the Guatamela qualifier, I don't remember what, where I was just yelling at the feed, "Get the frick off the field Edu." And I remember when he had a fully committed whiff in the Belgium friendly a while ago.
I hate to talk so much shite about one guy so much but I just think we have more capable guys we can put in there even with Bradley in Holden out. So to see him play makes me question Jurgen's judgement.

It's like he got really good coming out of MLS and then stalled in his development. He's improved a bit at Rangers, but I'm glad to see him move on to a better league.

The SPL is probably worse for a player's development than MLS. The European play has to be there to make it worthwhile. Edu should make some huge strides in the EPL. I still expect him to have his Edu moments, though.

Overstating his role a wee bit are we?

He got the secondary assist on the goal. He's also broke up mexican play time and time again. Obviously he didn't go it alone, Edu and Cameron had wonderful games, but he was definitely a leader on that historic squad.

Absolutely. Especially now that rangers is dead. Obviously, playing European football for celtic is better for development, but the rest of the league is a step down from MLS.

I can't base it from fact. Mls has 19 teams, SPL has 12. The all time leading scorer in SPL history is a benchwarmer on the 16th best team in the league. The guys who have made the jump from SPL to MLS haven't fared all that well. Granted, they haven't come in the prime of their careers, but they've had less of an impact than other big name Europeans. We crushed Scotland 5-1 in that friendly. While the scots may have better technical ability, the gulf in athleticism is obvious.

Can't sacha Kljestan play in the center of the park? To me this would be the perfect time to bring him in and see if he's good enough to contribute going forward. He's playing well for a team that just made the champions' league. Since no one else has even mentioned him, I might just be completely wrong. I think he'd provide something a little different than the other guys mentioned

Stop speaking from your bias.
The average level of play in the SPL is far below MLS now. This is a fact, especially now that Rangers are gone. To say otherwise is just poppycock.
