As pretty much it always has been in the past decade, it's going to be a US/Mexico final and Mexico is basically bringing their Olympic team, which won gold but is still wildly young and inexperienced. We aren't bringing our A-Team by any means, but we still have a good mix of vets (Donovan, Onyewu, Goodson, Beasley, Gomez, Holden) and young talent (Mix, Corona, Shea, Bedoya).

It also helps that the final is in Chicago and not in Mexico City, California like it was in 2011.

If I had to guess, we have the best chance of winning this.

We certainly have a great chance to win it, and are the odds on favorite. Like always it'll come down to us vs Mexico

I guess it depends on how the Mexican B squad looks like, did they play any friendlies?

Yes and Mexico did very poorly in their friendlies.

Played at least 2, and I believe they lost both of them. Both were to Mexican club teams.

That's good news. I wonder if the teams that aren't in the hex are going to send their A teams? Jamaica might as well considering they only have 2 points.

Jamaica didn't qualify, they didn't do well in the Caribbean Championships because they were right after WCQs and I believe they didn't send all of their A-team.

Hmm, didn't know that. I honestly haven't seen all the teams that are playing. I just know it's us, Mexico, and the teams we are playing. Oh yeah and Canada since they automatically get in.

honestly, wtf is the point of this Gold Cup if no one takes it seriously? Does every country just enjoy having a JV tournament?

I think the biggest benefit is the opportunity for fringe players to compete in a competitive tournament. It does seem kinda pointless otherwise though.

Well everyone should take the next one a little more seriously because it gives the chance at the confeds cup

I believe they changed the rules as to the 13 and 15 gold cup winner will play a match to see who goes to 17 confederations cup

We play with ourselves.

But seriously, the game would only happen if the Gold Cup winners are different.

I can't believe I didn't know this. I have been explaining the old format to my friends since the confed cup kicked off and now I hear about this.

What a great format though. I was already excited about the GC cup, but I'm gonna go full retard now. It would be nice to win this one and (assuming we go full A-side) go full domination in '15.

Damn I missed that as well. I am surprised teams aren't bringing more starters.
