As many on here have said, depending upon where you live, you´ll never see a hockey jersey in the street on someone. Even in hockey country, you´ll see a soccer jersey. Mind you, the US national side, or a major European club (the US national side, 90 plus percent of the time).
Hockey´s not a US game anyway, so I don´t get the vehemence with which you defend it.
You refer to numbers. Pull them out. I´m sure you´re referring to some absolute numbers, and regional, when applicable.
The demographic breakdown of hockey fandom is certainly top heavy in an older age group and certain regions of the US, and many hispanic regions probably are soccer across the board, irrespective of the age group.
The important demographic sampling is middle class and upper middle class´(both are specimens suffering an economic holocaust of course), across the board.
Get these numbers. I know you´d be shocked.
Again, seriously IDGAF, but you were one of two who went on and on about ´The Miracle on Ice´, and how that great achievement is multifold superior to a potential WC won by the US. Your flippancy and selective facts were very adolescent, and when I properly dismounted them, you and your friend reverted to ´soccer fig´ and ´sense of superiority´type comments.
Were the WC won by the US in ´Miracle on Ice´ times, it would have been comparable, but only because it was Cold War time still. No Cold War, the WC win wins, hands down.
Again, keep on with the MLS prism, that´ll let you properly ´weasel out´.

Its cool, I knew trying to have an honest dialogue about this subject here was gonna be tough.

Interesting perspective depending on where you're from. Up here in the north, hockey >>>>>>>>>>> soccer. Down south, I'm sure it's different.
ETA: NHL Stanley Cup Final Game 5 this year averaged 6 million viewers. MLS Cup was around 500,000. Champions League Final was just under 2 million. Just for some perspective.

How do the USA games in the World Cup compare? Feel free to compare it to USA hockey at the Olympics.

Dude you were the one telling another guy he was being obtuse simply for asking you a question. I live in Florida as well. Hell I live 35 mins from where the panthers play and I have yet to meet someone who would even know their record let alone support the team and I'm talking about guys in in their late 20s/early 30s. With my work, I work with primarily transplants from the NE, again I cannot recall a single mention ever of hockey by any of them. Hockey gets by on a couple of dedicated markets. In terms of youth participation, and nationwide knowledge/following it is very much a niche sport.

Yeah. Blue Jackets are WAY bigger in Columbus than the Crew (and the Jackets are also WAY smaller than Ohio State football, not surprisingly).

The USA WC games averaged less viewers than Bolt's 100-meter run in track. I guess track's more popular than soccer. Events like the World Cup and Olympics transcend sports and don't portray accurately how popular a sport is.

It is a niche sport. So is soccer st this point in the sporting landscape. Soccer has the much greater potential and I think it will realize that, maybe no as soon as others think, but it will get there non the less.
The question asking where "so called hockey fans" was obtuse. They are there in the place one would expect to find them.

Soccer isn't a niche sport. It's way smaller than the big three for sure, but it isn't by definition niche. If it is, how would you define this particular "niche"?
Hockey is niche. It's extremely regional, and you basically can't play at any level unless you're well off. It's almost exclusively a sport for rich white people living in the north.

Sure it is. Soccer has also been a middle class and up endeavor with the pay to play model in the youth structure. They are not playing soccer in the urban cores either.

Ehhh...we might be seeing it growing out of a niche sport right now, but for most of its history in the United States it was the definition of a niche sport. Played by a small group of people. Youth participation increased greatly from the 1990's onward, so that soccer was the fastest growing sport. But good attendance figures, which are rather recent, and good television figures for a WC game, all point to it growing out of its niche status.

This statement would be true 10, 15, 20 years ago. It's not anymore.
Soccer is in no way exclusionary at the most basic levels. You basically CAN'T play hockey unless you pay for time on the ice. That's the definition of niche.
