A double dive like that cannot be beat.
Yeah, that double manager and player dive just has so many elements packed into 2 seconds.
The manager giving the fake head butt himself but mind you so gentle as to actually hurt and then going down like he was hit by a train and then the player that for a split second seems like he's going to push the manager but then decides better of it and goes down to roll around in agony himself.
Swan Lake has nothing on that ballet.

Xavi Hernandez, though, believes Barca's success was a victory for football as Madrid had set up to defend on home turf.
"Football won," he told Sport. "Justice has been done. The only team who wanted to play and go out to attack was us."
And people wonder why casual observers are so sick of Barca's bullshite.
It seems as though they really believe that no defender should get near them however as soon as they lose the ball themselves we all notice how they scratch and claw and kick like banshees to get it back (by the way my favorite thing about their style if they would stop crying when another team does it to them).
If "football" is attacking with no resistance then why do they foul so much when they lose possession?

I have never thought that Barca plays "attacking" football. They play opportunistic football. They pass it around until people start to dive in or lose their shape, then they pass the ball through the middle and have someone dribble around a player and dink it into the goal. They don't take chances so they are rarely exposed. It is boring football to many including myself.
Edit: Terrible spelling of a word that changed entire post.

Congrats bro, you just described every other team in the world. That's how you play soccer.

I don't agree with that. Barca IMO doesn't push the ball at all. That is why their possession numbers are through the roof. Other teams push the ball forward with probing passes and runs. Teams shoot from distance play balls into space. I don't see Barca doing that much of that. So yes, teams pass the ball around looking for openings. But I don't think that it is the same way that Barca plays.

Very true but Barca doesn't have to push with the way they pass. And also, why shoot from long range at 25 yards when you slide it past the goalkeeper 5 yards away?

There is no reason to unnecessarily shoot when you have the skill. I didnt say that their style of football was bad, I just don't think of it as attacking like Xavi apparently does. I have always respected their play even though it is boring for 75% of the time to watch it on tv.

My apologies. I misread your earlier post

You saying that made me go back and reread mine. Apparently I do not know the difference in spelling optimistic and opportunistic.

I agree completely. It is a fantastically effective style if you have the type accurate passing midfielders they have to do it but it is FAR from pure attacking football.
In fact, the tendency to pass 500 times a match at 3 meters each in the midfield is just as much a defensive tactic as an attacking one.
"And also, why shoot from long range at 25 yards when you slide it past the goalkeeper 5 yards away?"
The thing with Barca is that against lesser defenses this argument works as they are continually able to get in on goal. But above all, their style is, of course, to minimize attacking risks where possession is lost as much as possible and simply return the ball to midfield 500 times until a couple of chances like you mention may open up.
Again, it is effective and admirable and the issue anyone takes is the idea that it defines "attacking football."

Barca's style is the most overrated in sports.

How is it overrated when it's successful?

It's not the most beautiful thing I've ever seen and that team is full of superstars that can play a variety of ways and still be successful.

When I think of teams this year playing extremely "attacking" football, I think of Napoli, Udinese, Villarreal and from the little I watch Bundesliga, quite a few side there.
If any of these sides completed 90% of 800 passes in a match they would score 15 goals because of the huge % of the passes that are high risk/high reward.

I just get really tired of watching Barcelona pass the ball backwards and other teams sit back and watch them complete 900 passes. The Bundesliga is where it's at as far as entertaining football. A lot of the defenses suck, but you're gonna see some goals and you're going to be entertained. The commentator from the Schalke - Man Utd game has obviously never seen a Bundesliga game.

It's probably more that any English announcer is always aghast of the anti-football being played against the proud English clubs that do it the right way.

that and the fact that it really didn't appear that Schalke should have been on that field. I thought it was hilarious when the commentator said that "I completely understand why the goalie wants to leave this club"

Sometimes their comments are funny but jesus did it get kind of old that they endlessly criticized Shalke every breath the whole match.
I'm not a fan of either side but it's clear to everyone that Shalke are nowhere near as good as Manchester United. Hell they got pretty lucky with Chivu's idiotic red card to get by an Inter team that's no where near as good as they have been the past few years.
To me, it's just typical of English announcers that call European matches to be so haughty and derogatory toward teams from other countries.
I know it's for the English fans and I'm sure they must lap that shite up but I'm one that even dislikes watching my favorite teams when the announcer is a fan being one sided.

This could be stopped if they fined players when it was clearly shown they were acting in order to fool the ref. It wouldn't be that hard to do. The NFL fines people for in game offenses post game, I don't see why these leagues can't do the same.
