If you could rename the MLS

I remember when they announced the creation of the MLS, I didn’t really prefer the name, but couldn’t think of an alternative.
If you could rename it, what would you call it?

MLS is fine. It's a lot of teams that need to change their name. Looking at you Salt Lake, Kansas City, DC, Atlanta, etc.

They’re better than the cartoon names of Rapids, Whitecaps, Galaxy, Timbers, Earthquakes, Dynamo, Fire…

No, those are typical American style names which are infinitely better than things that don't make sense. Real, Sporting and United have specific meanings that none of the MLS clubs qualify for, so it's cringey at best.

Totally agree. Some of those names are bad, especially Dynamo.

Meh, more than half those goofy names have actual local relevance. I mean I don't see people complaining about the Jazz and Lakers names which weren't even changed when the team was relocated to an area where the name didn't make sense.

I’ll give you Real Salt Lake, but…

So what's United about Atlanta and Sporting about Kansas City? Do they field a basketball team I don't know about?

Right. Maybe laughing stock of derivatives is more appropriate for MLS names.

MLS is probably fine.
But if the league wants to be taken seriously then it needs to take itself seriously. Although mundane to some, just roll with the city names with maybe some variance to differentiate multiple clubs in same city or district/county. And if you’re going to add a name, avoid goofy names. Washington Football Team was better than Commanders.

My problem isn't so much MLS, I really don't like nicknames for teams in any American league which is why I really loved Washington Football Team. I was hoping they would keep it instead of picking a nickname.
For MLS I think FC is fine, I get why Real and Sporting to a degree are kind of goofy though, but they are better than nicknames. It's just my opinion and I don't really care that much either way, I don't pick teams for their nicknames.
Edited to add that MLS is fine. Naming it Premier League or some other European league name wouldn't make sense because there are no other leagues below that are really associated with them.

I don’t mind FC in the name. Real or Sporting is kind of embarrassing tho .
Inter Miami I hate too.

Why does FC matter? Claiming football isn't really cringey.

Yeah I agree, and the MLS isn’t the only league with weird names. There is a Barcelona SC in Ecuador and the crest is almost an exact copy. There is a team in Bolivia called Always Ready but honestly I think that name is pretty cool

Yeah but sometimes those names came about because of foundation reasons. I mean once again no one is crushing Young Boys for an English name, or the Barcelona straight up took the colors of Basel because they were founded by someone with ties to that club. All in all, the world of soccer is freaking weird.

Naughty Boys FC say hi.

Yeah Sporting is common bc lots of those clubs are old and started out as generic recreational clubs. To see KC Sporting is just silly to me
I wish teams didn’t feel like they HAD to have the city in the name
