That does not compute.

Unless we beat those BinLaden lovin' bastards, it is not a great game.

"In the immediate aftermath of September 11, 2001, he and Chelsea team-mates Frank Lampard, Eidur Gudjohnsen and Jody Morris were accused of drunkenly mocking American tourists at Heathrow, stripping naked, laughing and vomiting."

we can all agree that our national anthem is better. Hope we have more fans at the game.

Totally disagree. Our national anthem is pretty shitty from musical standpoint.

"America" or "God Bless America" are both >>> Star Spangled Banner. And I think "God Save the Queen" is top 3 anthem in the world.

I will be in London to watch the game and just wondering how the crowd will react to a loss.

I would be very humble in defeat and gracious in winning. Don't give any of their rabid football (soccer) fans a reason to take out their frustrations on an American.

Just remember, for most Americans Soccer is just another sport. For much of the rest of the world, Soccer is the ONLY sport.

You just think LSU football fans are rabid. There are places in the world where the soccer pitch is surrounded by a moat and a fence is put up around the field to protect the players and referees.

Disagree on all counts. Star Spangled Banner is great, except for confusing lyrics early on. I like the story of a battle over the praising our land like the other two.

God Save the Queen has the same tune as that My Country This of Thee song, which also sucks, IMO.

As far as top 3, there's quite a few I like better.

But not in London.

BTW, isn't God Save the Queen the same as My Country Tis of Thee?

That said, America would have been much better than the SSB.

Except that the tune was actually taken from a popular English drinking song.

Disagree, although I do like the tune.

The problem with "The Star Spangled Banner" is that it is a poem, and that first verse is full of questions.

O say, can you see by the dawn's early light, what, so proudly, we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming? -- this is difficult to render, musically.

O say, does that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave? O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Again, difficult to render intelligently and stay true to the grammar.

So?

So shouldn't our national anthem be unique not only in it's lyrics but also in it's melody?

Agreed, but I'm no overly concerned about it. Absolutely love everything starting with "and the rockets red glare..."

I'm not saying the other songs are bad, but I prefer the poem about defending the flag to talking about fruited plains and purple mountain majesties.

It's not like we copied another national anthem. It was just a tune. I have no problem with it.

Except that we are the greatest nation on earth and our national anthem tune comes from a British drinking song. I just think we could have done so much better.
