What does that say about his relationship with Jurgen? Looking at the roster, he seems like the only logical choice.

Meh, you're forgetting that Donovan was around for all of 2011 with JK and to the end of the third round of WCQ in 2012. Omar, Besler hadn't even made a cap yet, GAM finally forced his way back in late 2012 while Zusi and Evans worked their way in at the 2013 Jan camp.
Not to mention the fact that Landy is the best US Soccer player in history. I get why he wasn't the captain for the Gold Cup, he just came back into the fold, but since then he has been the most productive player in a US kit.

Honestly, if he's not captain, I'm putting absolutely zero stock into that affecting his relationship with Jurgen or being an indicator of the state thereof.

Jurgey´s always been unpredictable, as Germans go. The absolute second worst big time striker with fricking A out the arse luck, I´ve ever seen.
Add in he´s been in California, dropping LSD for God knows, 15 years now.
I´m not comfortable.
Let´s hope the Indian or Pakistani (maybe Bangladeshí or Indonesian) ensures reason reigns.
