Croatia only has a population of 4+ million. They just swept their group. That's more amazing than Iceland.

I disagree. Iceland's ability to make professional level players from their population is unbelievable. By some quick math, we see that 7 out of every 100,000 Icelanders are professional football players. That's an insane rate. Croatia's performance is impressive, but the country already has WC pedigree, finishing 3rd in 1998. Uruguay swept their group as well, with a smaller population. Both are impressive, but Iceland's youth program, in terms of producing professional players, is nonpareil at the moment.

The next round would be made better by France and Argentina sacking their managers. That match could be a shite-show.

Not sayin it isn’t impressive, but their qualifying group was nothing crazy.

Neither is the US.

But if Iceland can do it. We can do it with just people from LA if we start them out the womb.

Part of me wonders if the hypothetical independent nations of New York, Los Angeles, and Texas couldn’t produce better national teams than the US has been able to.

Acosta, McKennie, Dempsey, Greg Garza, Brek Shea, Omar Gonzalez, Jose Torres......Not a horrible slew of players to start a national team with.

Wtf was Nigeria doing?

They had just won a turnover, but the first or second pass out was intercepted. They got caught flat footed for that split second to give Arg some space.

I don't see many German dual nats in that group which wouldn't have flown with Jurgy.

US soccer needs to embrace immigrants (Cen. Am./Euro/African) and metro/city kids and help them get the training needed to flourish on an international pitch.

I'm just talking about the amount of pro athlete's that have come from Louisiana.

It's not impossible, but these kids and their parents would have to put other sports and the huge contracts in the rearview mirror at an extremely young age.

A team from Louisiana would be legit if every kid played soccer instead of football, basketball, and baseball.

And our model kind of sucks. Kids are traveling over seas at 12 to sign and learn at giant clubs.

But Iceland has way more resources invested into the game

Croatia is an utter shite show and the country isn't as well off as Iceland, despite an established league.

DC would probably be better than all those

such a shame DC United can't foster the massive and well established talent pool in the area.

If USSF decentralizes, we could see results. Each region puts forth a team in a nation-wide competition. Each major city would have a state of art facility equipped with footbalnaut machines.

Imo, a kid should start with soccer before going to other sports if they choose. Coach Harbaugh of Michigan said the same thing.

The sad thing is the USSF is one of the richest federations in FIFA.

Yet barley puts any money into youth and grassroots soccer.

Its a fricking joke.

I was assuming, in this hypothetical, that we would have the system in place to provide decent development . The fact is, is that Louisiana is big on sports for youths. I would guess that the percentage of youths that play sports is high compared to other areas.

I know they had like $100 million last count. I wish we would have an endowment set up specifically for creating inner-city pitches and buying footballnauts.
