How is this not a red? Or even a yellow?

Apparently it's only red of you actually get them in the face with studs. That's how they've called it anyway.

Funny thing about this is I had to look up and see if Christian Atsu was still on loan from Chelsea or if we'd finally let him go.

I will admit that the picture a lot of people are showing includes this angle and makes it look like the studs catch him, when in fact it was the side of the boot.

It probably should have been a red card though. Valencia clearly knows the man is there and knows exactly what he's doing. The incident people are using in comparison is Mane's red after hitting Ederson. He was actually trying to play the ball, had no clue where Ederson was, lost out and still was sent off.

That and Ederson jumped in face first like he was still in the 18 yard box where he has protection as a GK.

That's a good point as well.

I honestly don't really care whether the refs are going to make this a red card offense, but they need to be consistent, which we all know appears to be impossible.

its a card for a high boot

it would have to be worse to be a straight red, but if he was sent off you can't really be up in arms over it.

I'm torn on this one, because on one hand I agree with you that it shouldn't be red, but it's just inconsistent based on the Mane call... But I can't argue that Mane's SHOULDN'T be red.

I still don’t think Mane should have been sent off

I was going to say yellow, but then you said:

He knew what he was doing.

I'm fine with this being yellow since it's soft side of boot, but could understand red since it's pretty reckless regardless.

Mane's is an easy red. I don't understand why people still debate this nonsense. He knew Ederson was coming, and still goes studs up. Give me a break. I mean look at that state of this.
