let's make the football fields shorter, the basketball hoops bigger, and let every team everywhere start with 25 points, regardless of sport. More scoring = more awesomeness, for sheezy.
How often do you see pro football games end with a score of 7-0 or 14-7 (1-0,2-1), not often. People enjoy big scoring games in football, 35-17 for example (5- 2)
pro basketball scoring has become ridiculously high and I think they hurt the professional game by putting artficial rules in to even increase scoring by more, such as not allowing a team to play a zone defense.

MLS made some attempts to "Americanize" the game early in its history. Such as shootouts for regular season games and a countdown clock.
Know what they found out? It alienated soccer fans and failed to attract new fans. So they changed back to standard FIFA rules.
Keep the game as is.

a countdown clock.

They have a countdown clock in Texas UIL High School competition as well. I agree. It's annoying. I still wonder why they have it there...

Mouth-breathing drunks need big-scoring football games to be entertained.
A 17-7, 13-10 football game can be ridiculously entertaining.

U.S. don't really dislike soccer because of the low scoring but for some other reasons that they cannot articulate
well the other reason is they think they are sissies for the way they roll around on the ground with overdramatic displays of pain after getting tripped up. I know busting your shin hurts like hell, but act like a man about it. Americans don't like that.

in the playoffs, of course, it only adds to the drama. But for an average sunday game (unless it's your team involved in the game, then it's entertaining regardless) fans don't want to watch a lot of low scoring defensive battles.

In all honesty I think the reason the "average sports fan" in America doesnt follow soccer isnt due to the rules of the game, but rather because of two things:
1) We aren't the very best at it, and/or inventors of it
2) pre-conceived notions, and closed-mindedness.
If a guy grows up thinking the sport is dumb, then his kid will probably grow up thinking it's dumb too. Look at religion in America. Same thing. Progress is slow.

the everyday sports fan isn't going to watch games that do not include their team
most fans on this board can watch any game of soccer and enjoy it
so if we are looking to get the everyday sports fan, we need them to get a team, otherwise they will complain

I'm watching a 1-1 game right now, that has been up and down for the whole game, with tons of scoring chances.
Will I have to look at the score tomorrow, and tell myself it was boring?
Americans have the attention spans of special needs gnats, and need to be told every 30-45 seconds that you can take a breather and not pay attention here.
Same reason that people are trying to "fix" baseball.

i agree with that, trying to draw a foul, I understand that. But soccer seems to take it to another level and, just saying, a lot of sports fans knock soccer because of it and it gives a bad image of the sport to the casual US sports fan.

The casual US sports fan is probably only looking for something to pass the time between American Idol, and the paragraph of the Sarah Palin book they read that night.
Soccer isn't broken.
Soccer doesn't need "fixing."

diving is part of the game....one of the few things fifa is trying to get rid of by upping fines and penalties for offenses
Charlie Davies just got fined for his pussy arse dive a little while back
that, and you'd be surprised how easy it is to take down someone who is sprinting, professional soccer players are not weak

It could be a primetime sport in the USA if there was more scoring.
Yay, another one of these threads.

I was talking about this with a friend of mine and he thought they should get rid of the goalie.
Your friend is an idiot. People would just kick long balls the whole match.

But what if they just made the goals bigger? At least in Major League Soccer games played in the U.S.
The rest of the world plays with regulation nets. It would be the US playing an entirely different sport from the rest of the world. None of our players would be able to go to Europe or compete on an international level due to the differences.

By making it a popular professional sport in the U.S that the average sports fan will get into.
We can't compete on an international level if we change the rules here.

Why do you think it would be any different in soccer?
