Pique is world-class, just not in that instance. Valdes stopped his run in no-mans land, but Pique still had time to close down on Ronaldo.
Defending doesn't have to mean making tackles, and man-marking. Tiki-taka has re-defined how we can rate defenders.
Stoke and Barcelona have great defenders, just complete opposite styles of defending.

Pique is a good defender but he does too much stupid shite for me to call him World Class. I'm not going to go on a crusade against you for calling him that, I just don't agree.
I do agree that defending is more than tackling and marking but as a center back, I think those two factors are still the most important.
